hello

well the first doctor i saw was tom baker but i definetly prefer david tenant he is just so great i think he brings a certain aspie like trait to the dr, or is that just wishful thinking lol , and unlike most doctor fans i actually liked the millenium one where they opened the eye of the tardis (omg did i admit to that) i thought mcgann made quite a good dr and his clothing was quite fantastic, i can't wait for the new series, it looks like catherine tate is coming back , she was so funny as the bride, anyhow did anyone see this years xmas special with kylie and get a bit disappointed, i did not feel it was up to the usual standard somehow and the scene where the dr is in between two flying golden angels (host) just seemed so tacky, when the dr turned round and gave that long speach about who he was that just seemed self aggrandizing and so opposite to how isee the character and where was the scary monster that was to destroy the earth, it was a rather disapointing half cyborg businessman who wanted to retire, and kylie pushed him over the edge with of all things a forklift, do they not know the doctor saves the day not someone in a forklift lol, oh well rant over well at least the doctor managed to stop titanic hitting buck house i suppose but then having the queen at the end was just so funny so it wasn't all bad lol

madz

First Doctor Who I ever watched was the 1996 movie, which I found interesting, then I watched later episodes from the new series, so I only have seen 3 doctors, and the latest (David Tennant) seems to be the best.

I think I liked him the best also, bu tI keep hearing good thing about the new fellow. I've only seen him in the charity piece with Peter Davidson.

Still I have fond memories of Pertwee and Davidson, and didn't get the chance to really get to know McCoy well.

Di d they do a regeneration on screen from the 7th to the 8th?

I see that Shada is available on videotape. Thats something I never though tI'd see.

I rented it. It was good. It's several parts are connected by narration by a fairly recent-looking Tom Baker.

I was disappointed when Eccleston left the show, but it was nice to see it "survive" one of the Doctor's regenerations--and so well.

If I have to pick a favorite, it's going to be Christopher Eccleston at this point. I love Tennant, but Eccleston's stories really resonated with me (one of my favorites being "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances"). A few of Tennant's episodes have fallen a bit short of the mark for me (not many, and not far--but just enough to keep Eccleston on top).

Of course, I'm now 37, married, and have three children--so Christopher Eccleston's really my "first" Doctor for this part of my life!

Ya, out of respect for Eccleston, I was kind of mad at the snarky Tennant when he first arrived as the new doctor -- but he eventually totally won me over, which I didn't think would happen. I liked the no-nonsense style of Eccleston, and I didn't like when Tennant got too silly.

Heck, I was mad at them for even starting the new series in the first place! I thought they wouldn't be able to do it justice, but I was proven wrong about that as well. I like it a lot. A tad on the corny side, but I suppose that's as it should be.

Yes, they did, in the 1996 USA Made for TV movie. About 27 minutes into it, it showed VERY clearly the regeneration from Sylvester McCoy to Paul McGann. In fact, it was for that reason that I consider McGann to be canon with the saga altogether.

Now then, to answer the thread initial question, my favorite Doctors are a tie, believe it or not, between the first two; Hartnell and Troughton! I guess that's because I'm insanely curious as to know just what the HECK we're missing from all those destroyed stories.

As for how I discovered it, that's simple...that beautiful, haunting theme music in Saturday afternoons on PBS when I was 7. Like 70% of Whovian's my age, Tom Baker was my first viewed Doctor, in the story "The Brain of Morbius". :)

He was certainly different. I didn't mind those movies.

I recently got The Curse of Fenric on DVD.

Yes I remember the Tv movie he was taking the remains of the Master back to Gallifrey.

I guess things picked up next with the 9th doctor.
From there on I saw nothing.
Did thet do a regeneration from the 8th to the 9th?

How did they reintroduce the show with the 9th?

They didn't actually show a regeneration. Early in the first episode, he sees his reflection and says "Oh, could have been worse. Look at the ears."

Been offsite for a while, so couldn't post much...

Peter Cushing Movies : I liked the look of the movies, particularly the second one (Daleks Invasion Earth 2154 AD) but his doctor was way too human and too friendly for my liking.

Paul McGann : Never really got into him - I was grateful for the movie because I wanted (ANY) new Dr Who - It's only been recently when I compare it to the New Series that I appreciate how truly awful it was.

The 7-8 regeneration scene - shat on by typical Americanism cross-cutting the scenes between Dr Who and Frankenstein - IMHO the Frankenstein bits ruined the regeneration.

How did the 8th Dr get introduced .... erm... "Run for your life!"

Season Box Sets : The new series is available as Season box sets but most of the old isn't - the exception being Key to Time. There are other box sets, but they don't run an entire season.

It looks like Trial of a Timelord is being prepped for release as a box set...

BTW: Did people like the 13th Doctor - the Valeyard?

Tom Baker (of course) followed by David Tennant.

I really didn't like Cushing's potrayal (far too different for me, but I like him as an actor).
