Apart from me changing one of those names recently, it's not changed in a good while

Wow, that is very cool. I thought Krabo meant somewhere in the ocean. Still very tired. Google earth is an amazing thing.

More games like this! :D

I have another one for you, if you're interested:

There's a group of 100+ islands just off the Western Australia coast, near the town of Esperance. The largest island in the group, towards the eastern end of the chain, has a rather unusual lake. It's not easy to tell why from Google Maps, but if you enter the lake's name into Google you can find out for yourself.

Cool cool cool cool. I found it! :bounce:

<<<< very excited Moomingirl.

Thanks Murihiku. :D

These are fascinating. If anyone else knows cool things like this, maybe we could start a new thread? Sadly I don't know enough interesting places, but I love this game.

It's my turn to be confused now. Which particular island do you mean? I found Esperance and a group of islands close to it but I wouldn't call them a chain. Besides, quite close to Esperance there's this Pink Lake but it is on the continent.

Yes, I think he means the pink lake on Middle Island. This is so much fun. New addiction!

Right, I found it. Otherwise fine but it's nowhere near the town of Esperance.

All right, here's another. In Europe, right where the borders of Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia meet, there is a dirt road amidst fields. And something whitish, something triangular. The map view gives the label Sculpture park, and the satellite view displays... yes, what is it? (It is not precisely on the ground zero of three borders, it is a few yards on the Hungarian side.)

I don't have any label saying sculpture park. I think I'm in the right place though. There are some white things scattered around, including a larger triangular one?
There is no street view available to look at it more clearly. It looks like a plane crash or something to me?

What is it Krabo? And more to the point, how do you find these things??

^^ That's a lot of bouncing heads.

Street View worked for me. The site looks like a collection of small monuments, ruins and artefacts lying in a field ... plus a cool-looking triangular table (with a random dog next to it).

I did a Google search, and apparently it's an installation by several international artists that's part of the Iron Curtain Trail, commemorating the fall of the Soviet Union. It looks kinda sparse, but I'm guessing that's what they were going for – like the ruins of something that used to be important but no longer is.

Depends on your perspective. Esperance is in the middle of outback nowhere, and is the only place of significance near the islands (that I've heard of, at least). The distance between the town and the island (120 km) isn't that far by Aussie standards: it used to be my university commute every weekday morning and again in the evening. ;)

I can only get 'ground level view' which is not good resolution. It won't let me do Street View. Grrr. Want to see, why can't I do it? I can get street view on the industrial area down the road, but not near the area I want to see. :(

Er... yes. Now I found the correct Middle Island, like you said, some 120 km from Esperance. Strange enough, Google maps search utility won't find it. It only finds one in Victoria and another one in Western Australia but on the north coast.

And yes, you are correct about the sculptures and triangular table. It looks like this,
