U.S.S.

Originally nicknamed, "Big Ben" because named after Benjamin Franklin It earned the nickname, "The Ship that wouldn't Die" from the March 19th, 1945 attack on her by a lone Japanese plane 50 miles off the Japanese Homeland Islands. She took two semi-armoring piercing bombs that caused massive damage to her. She lost 724 of her crew and 265 more were wounded but she was saved by the heroics of by 400 members of her crew. She had the highest causality count of any US Navy ship in the war. She was heavily damaged but she was still afloat and made it back to stateside for repair but was never used again along with one of her sister ship
