I don't think I blocked them, at least not that I remember. Are you on an ipad, phone or PC babybird?

I had that problem too, Moomin, on my old PC. But after I got a new one, haven't had that problem.

Speak for yourself. I learn languages (finally took Skilpadde's advice and actually started studying regularly ) and correspond with people as far flung as Italy, Finland, South Africa, Australia and the USA.

I quite like people as long as I don't have to actually meet them.

I too far prefer online contact by the way. No missing out on body language, no making a poor impression or wearing the wrong expression or giving off the wrong signal. And you can take it all at your own pace. I think the net was made for aspies!

Not that I didn't know myself that I needed to study, but it was just the final push I needed to actually get into it. My Italian is coming along nicely - all the years off on and off study are starting to come together in my head. I had a whole long conversation with myself last night, and I was surprised at how much I could express. My Finnish is much slower, but I am getting through that as well, so I am quite proud of myself. Normally I start things well, but struggle to keep them going.

Yes, the Internet certainly is great for Aspies. Of course, sometimes it is hard to judge people's 'tone' in writing, but as you say, it's much less stressful than real life. For me, there's a lot less input to process, as you are not looking at them, and I like that you have the time to think about your response. I guess that's why, even as a kid, I enjoyed having penpals.

By the way, I was reading about Norwegian on my language forum, and I see there are two kinds - bokmål and nynorsk - I would appreciate it very much if you could advise me which would be the most appropriate for a foreigner to study. Not that I'm going to start yet, but you never know, when I get really comfortable with my Italian, I may have time to put Norwegian on the list of languages.

Yes, I've done my Googling, I was just interested to hear Skilpadde's thoughts on the subject as a native.

I always just presume that everyones tone is in the same tone as my own.

I think if we all had the same tone there would be a lot less misunderstandings.
