Yes, I believe that's what they are attributing it to.

We are having a mild winter so far. Just returned from Durban, where it's almost always warm. Some light rain and mist early yesterday morning, but not cold.

The friends I stayed with have a lovely thatched home in a quiet country area against a steep hill. Their dogs roam freely to neighbouring properties with no fences. Moomingirl would love the solitude there. They keep a goat, chickens, three tame guineafowls, four dogs and three cats. The area is called Peacevale, which is a highly suitable name.

^sounds like Heaven, enviro. :)

I am surprised to hear they have a thatched house. I always think of it as a peculiarly English thing, although I suppose as a natural product, it makes sense that it is used worldwide.

It's actually a new house that is still a work in progress, they built it about 4-5 years ago and there are still a few finishing touches to be done. The wife is a very keen gardener and making it her mission to cover an unsightly bare embankment on one side of the upper slope above the house.
I slept so well there the three nights I was there as its so peaceful there. They have a rock pool which is lovely for the summer months. They use organic methods of doing things wherever possible, and she regularly takes all her trash to the nearest village for recycling.

Absolutely amazing place.

Theta - if it is above 30 C we call it hot.
Moomz - note that Enviro mentioned thatched house and goat.

So, what is the significance of thatched house and goat together? :? The goat is now named Boy George because apparently they thought he was female at first but has been proved male.

So evidently they can't get any goat milk....

Replace the moss with straw and you get the idea.

^

@ Krabo - is that 30 degrees c or f?? :P

Enviro, you obviously do not have a lot of experience of goats. I had not put the two things (thatched roof and goats) together in my head, but as soon as Krabo mentioned it I laughed. Goats are notoriously naughty, excellent escape artists, and will eat anything. 8)

Celsius. There's an official weather forecast term called helle (practically untranslatable in one word only) and it means "hot weather" or formally "temperature exceeding +25 °C measured in a shadow 2 meters above ground". Now, the limit is set at 25, a number which would be considered chilly in Egypt. It only shows we are a Northern nation. We find +30 °C and above extremely uncomfortable.

You would be very surprised what I know about Finnish weather. Long story. 8)

I know what you mean though, anything above 25 degrees c and I melt.

English girls aren't designed for hot weather either.

You're probably right about the design. According to Sky News, anything above +25 °C is rare in England.

Rare, but not unheard of.

Any hotter than that and I retire to the shade sipping gin & tonics.

Gin is the most horrible drink ever invented! It tastes like juniper berries. :eew:

I think it's an English woman's thing. As soon as you turn 25 you miraculously develop a taste for Gin & Tonic.

Finns and Russians - men and women alike - miraculously develop a taste for vodka when they turn 15.
