You know that the Romans conquered the Spartans (along with the other Greeks). In fact, they were all but nothing by the time Alexander the Great came around.

The Greeks were more concerned with intellectual capacities after Alexander had conquered Persia, Egypt, and parts of India. Wasn't so orderly after his death and the situation looked similar to the squabbling state politics here in America. Rome conquered the area mainly for insurance, which it gained.
