"Are you sure you're okay?" Umbria asked.

"No, really, I'm chill." Lychee said,
though their expression made it clear that they were not "chill."

They breathed in air, before they looked down at the floor for a long time.

"....."

"...If we're being honest, I haven't had any friends in a long time." they told Guinan. "So... thanks."

(I thought it might be interesting if Mike, Gristle, and Kiki come back to find that many hours have passed even though from their perspective only a few minutes had passed. I don't know if Lillikoi is up for that but one thing we haven't had much of in the RP is general relativity.)

(I don't want to bring physics into this, 'cause I think that would make it too complicated.

But with the way I wrote it, Mike would be back by now. He would have gotten back around 10 in the morning.

Never mind. I was mistaken.

[What two timelines? Did I miss something?]

Umbria spoke up tentatively. "So have you always, like...?" She made a gesture with her hand.

"Been homeschooled?" Lychee said. "Nah, I used to go to middle school up until the seventh grade."

They leaned their face closer, their voice low so that only Umbria and a few others could hear them. "My mom pulled me out of school in seventh grade ecause I have a learning disability. Says it's because I need to learn how to 'fit into society.'" they said bitterly. They looked around to see that their mom wasn't in the room, before saying, "If we're being honest, she can be kinda overbearing."

What is a society? It asked suddenly, while trying very hard to follow the conversation.

Suddenly Mike's wormhole containment device falls out of Gristle's pocket, opens up, and creates a portal which Mike steps out of before Mike closes it and stows it again. He says "Those weird magic portals are about as unsettling as standing under a magically floating piano, something about having no spacial node devices holding a portal open is very scary probably because if it closes while I'm in it then each half of me will be in a different universe and that doesn't sound like a fun way to go. Anyway, what did I miss?"

You are beautiful, and you simply learn differently from everyone. The one you call mother has difficulty accepting that, and so tries to force you to be a certain way. Trying to fulfill those expectations would be a betrayal of yourself and what you need. It said earnestly to Lychee, gently taking her hand as if to comfort her.

“Can I ask what you mean by 'fitting into societty'?”, Rose asked as she sipped her lemonade, while watching Dan finishing setting up the Wii, “In what way, exactly?”

(Hooooo, it's not gonna be that easy to get Lychee to change their mind. They're stubborn. )

Lychee smiled slightly as it took their hand, but then they let go. "Actually, I don't think it's that easy." they thought to it. "There's a lot more things f****d up with my head than just that."

They frowned. "It's not just a 'difference' if it hinders you. Things are harder for me every day. That's not a difference. That's a hindrance."

(OOC: The part where they're talking to Space Kitty is in Lychee's thoughts, so Dan can't hear. But the next thing they say is out loud."


"...Y'know what?" Lychee tilted their head slightly. "...Actually, I don't want to talk about this. 'Cause this is my party, and I just wanna have fun."

They faced forward. "So, about that game." they said out loud. "Let's get started!"

[Ah, I see.]

A game? It seemed quite excited. Games are wonderful. May I join?

"Sure." Lychee grinned, and handed it the last controller. Then they explained to Space Kitty about what video games were, and showed it how to operate the Wii remote as Dan finished setting up the game.

"Isn't that cool?"

It had never seen anything like a 'video game' before, and stared at the controller as if looking at a mystical artifact of some sort.
Why does the temperature matter?

“Um, no, 'cool' is just an expression,” Dan said as he finished up setting the Wii, “It means that something seems really, really great.”
