Ugh, now I'm not going to be able to take capsules either!
Insomnia can be a significant problem for me, which I think is part of ASD. But I'm never awake for days at a time; the worst it will do is ruin a night of sleep and I'll end up sleeping 2-3 hours. On top of that, it usually takes me up to an hour to fall asleep normally or on a good night.
Ambien works really, really well on me apparently-- I've only ever tried it once and it was a half-tablet. I felt like a million bucks when I woke up. But that stuff scares me, from what I've read about it, so I've never taken it since. I shy away from anything that sounds more like illicit hard drugs than medication.
I usually take melatonin, which is a more natural way to fall asleep, and most of the time it works well enough. If I really want to make sure it works, I take two 5-mg capsules. A single 5-mg pill is the "industrial strength" dose, but I am very tall and I think I need more than most people for it to be effective. And I don't think there's any danger in taking two when it comes to melatonin.
I found a gummy supplement which was even better at my local market once, which has melatonin plus some herbal stuff in it that gave me a better quality of sleep. I didn't feel groggy at all any time I took it, like I sometimes do taking just melatonin. The market stopped carrying it though; I need to see if I can order it online for myself. If anyone's interested, I can send you the name of it and possibly a link once I find it.
Sleep well, everybody!
