To me, it looks like some cute red-headed girl with long hair, who's a Lieutenant in an Eastern-European army (the hat does that).
(And I know you're a male, Kip, it just looks like that's what your avatar is a picture of... not necessarily representative of you, not any more than I am a tree or a fiery cloud. )

I find the color gradients in that Moomin avatar to be particularly pleasant and soothing for some reason; I really like that one. Also like the whimsy of Moomin standing on his head on the ice.

That's always good advice; much simpler that way, for one thing.
Much kinder on everybody, too. That's the important part. 
You would know for sure what your hair color was, but at the time they all looked to me to have an auburn-reddish tint to them. Could just be the lighting... some did seem more brown than others.
Blonde?
That was hard to picture, just have never seen you with hair that light. I bet it turned out well though.

Yeah, I quite liked the blonde. It made me feel lighter and more fluffy somehow. I think I suit brunette better though.
