Probablement.... ou, je pense qui. N'est pas trouvable (?).... um, I got troubles but the scan(s) cannot find anything. That's a worrying thing these days, viruses, spyware, malware, other shite are so sneaky they don't leave a trace anymore. People think they're less around 'cos they don't notice anything but that's simply untrue. Not to enhance paranoia here but they are there in even bigger numbers than before.... but yeah, less visible, more sneaky.

I do not care that much though, I have little to hide, don't do bank transaction or.... just think folks are growing more and more naive these days concerning bad ware.

Um, comme d'habitude, the truly bold win.

Yes, the malware is of concern. I do use my computer for online banking and have confidential data on it and some client data too. One reason why I use Firefox with Ad Blocker plus, NoScript and Flash Blocker. It all helps to keep the nasty stuff out. There is so much dodgy stuff on the Internet nowadays. As you say the anti-virus and similar software only detect common stuff. Depending on how sneaky the malware is it can be virtually impossible to detect.

I've realised, what with all the posts in French in this thread, that I can read French a lot better than I thought I could. I still can't really write or speak the language though...

Today I've finished reading "Around the World in 80 days" in the original French. But I still struggle to write an error free sentence in French! I can say the French words / sentences in my head but it is a different matter to spell them correctly or get the verb tenses correct.

Och-aie-la-nu as Fraser used to say in Dads Army. What does it mean anyway?

I was trying to think of an analogous word. Wiktionary suggests "Alas!" but that sounds so archaic.

Anyway: Achtung!

That's the nicest thing of this thread (other threads as well), one can virtually talk about anything but.... I use Firefox for the same reasons (NoScript=?, going to look what it is soon). Malware is of concern, yes. Lots depends also on which sites one visits and what one opens and what one enables to enter the 'system'.

Bugger, I know too little about it and have trouble writing things in English here but I'm at the brink of buying a new and good laptop so I must learn the ins and outs fast concerning malware and shite now. I know more or less the features the laptop has to have for it to work nicely but my task now is to keep the thing malware free..

.. and win that way. (in the end)

Um, lots of post in between.... please carry on, don't mind this post too much.

One of the commonest ways of getting malware onto your computer is via scripting. Some sites use scripting some don't. Using the NoScript add-on blocks all scripts from all websites but you can selectively turn it on for sites that you want to allow. Basically if a site doesn't display fully and a message pops up saying scripts have been blocked you can turn them on temporarily for the site, or permanently or simply ignore and don't give the site so many permissions that they could potentially harm your computer.

Use NoScript for the win! :D

With just a few words, the thread is mine.
