^ True. Even though there's no chance of having a white Christmas here, having Christmas barbecues on the beach is pretty good too. Still don't know why Santa wears winter clothes here, though. Is Christmas pretty much the same in SA, enviro?

Yes indeed. BBQ (braais) are very popular here.

Unfortunately I'm nowhere near the beach right now, as I'm on the Rand with my BF. He's having an afternoon nap. However, I was at the beach a few weeks ago when I visited friends of mine on the Garden Route.

We have had very high temperatures (heat wave) although today is certainly a good deal cooler than yesterday.

I've heard a few SA'ns say "braai", but I always thought it was some kind of meat. Close enough, I guess. A few places in Australia have had temps in the high 30s and low 40s, but not here yet. Hopefully we don't; bushfire season has already started in Oz. :(

I hope everyone had a good holiday/weekend, too.

Yep, braais refer to barbeques in general, usually outdoors over an outdoor wood or gas fire.

99% of them certainly include meat as I've never encountered a vegetarian braai, although I'm sure it would be possible...

Perhaps Murihiku should design a flag with kiwis and wetas and Giant Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches.

With a background of Maori tattoo patterns.

And fringe.

Lots of fringe.

That'd be too "ethnic" for a lot of New Zealanders  – never mind all the animals.

Not sure what you meant by "fringe". Do you mean like the golden trim that you sometimes see around the American flag?

Yes, and like on afghans and Victorian drapes and theater curtains.

Maybe you could make a nice flag with a Weta silhouetted against the rising sun.

And fringe, lots of fringe.

Japan's flag is the rising sun.

I've designed flags for my world-building nations.

I can't find the one for Super-Zakhyria. It features a yellow triangle on a red background; a black dot at each of the three points of the triangle, and a large Z in black in the centre of the triangle.

And a tarantula, perhaps, or a banana slug?

And fringe?
