Hmmm, interesting ideas ... but what region or nation would such a flag represent?

Queensland is also the Sunshine State here in Australia.

So, the New Zealand referendum for the new flag has started. I, personally, find the silver fern proposal attractive. The whole world is holding their breath. -- You may not know that the Finnish flag has not always been blue cross on white background; for a short period in mid-1910s (just before our declaration of independence from Imperial Russia) it was yellow cross on red background which, actually, would have been a happier variant because our ice hockey jerseys would now show more red than they do currently. And in a game like ice hockey, it is desirable to be wearing red. It is psychological.

I think NZ should approve the silver fern flag. There comes a time in every person's and every nation's life when a change should be made. Static is boring!

I love your widespread knowledge about the history of the Finnish flag.

I guess you are familiar with Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky, one of the pioneers of colour photography, who took pricelss photos of Tsarist Russia?

I have bookmarked this site a long time ago -- which unfortunately is all Russian. But who cares, the photos speak for themselves. Probably you have found it, too.

Indeed, the new flag of South Africa is well designed. There is a story behind it -- which I don't have to tell to a South-African. :)

I can't find the one for Super-Zakhyria. It features a yellow triangle on a red background; a black dot at each of the three points of the triangle, and a large Z in black in the centre of the triangle.

Where's the AK-47? There must have been a revolutionary war in Super-Zakhyria to separate it from Middle Zakhyria.

The Norwegian flag has also changed a lot. The different ones can be seen here: https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norges_flagg
I especially liked the name sildesalaten, which we learned about in school! unforgettable!

Skilpadde,

When I was a schoolboy, what we first learned about Norway, was the flag, then herring, then the Øglænd bikes, den beste sykkel. There were, of course, a few lines about this king, the royal archeologist whose name I have forgotten. Who was he, by the way? Olof V perhaps?

Sure, ever since Ms. Betsy Ross sewed the first one, at orders of George Washington to place the 13 stars in a circle.

Now the stripes mean the first 13 states.

I love learning history. :)

That much I know. But who was the Norwegian king who was also an archaeologist?
