Would you believe her name was Frances Jane Eyre (known as "single Sister Fanny" in the local consensus), she lived in a town called Fullneck, and she knew Charlotte although Emily was still very young?

Do you notice how common "Fanny" was in the 18th and 19th centuries in both America and Great Britain? In any of the large families of that time, there seemed to have been at least one "Fanny."
