Hmm, but I am impatient. I want to speak it fluently. Yesterday.

I have met a few people on Duolingo who are studying Finnish (it is not on the site yet, we all study privately). We are a very small number, but fanatical in our interest. Finnish grabs some people like that.

One thing to consider. When an English person sees the word "hahhaa", I think they think it should be pronounced like "hah hah", right? Not so in Finnish. All double consonants are pronounced elongated or double. Thus, the Finnish variety of "hahhaa" is pronounced just like that, a long aich-sound in the middle. If you were a Scot, it would be no big deal for you.

No Finn would expect you to greet them in their native language. If you do, they usually faint anyway.

Yes Kip, the sound is lengthened for the double letters. It's easy enough, but there can be some awkward moments if you mispronounce something.

Well, I would say that I intend to stick around but I didn't really plan either of my extended disappearances, they kind of just happened.
