Never tried. There's a group of people who say we can. But a larger group of people say the past is fixed. The only way to change the contents of time is to change, not the future, but the present.

Yeah, I've also heard that even if time travel was possible, it could be no further back then the invention of the time machine itself, and if we could go back, the physicists seem very sure we couldn't change anything. A few seem to think that an alternative time line would come to life (and do for any possible outcome; The Many Worlds theory).
