In English, Lollipop is still a mostly-innocent word; if you take children to the doctor and they behave well, the doctor will often give them a lollipop and refer to it as such. :P

It only becomes dirty as the result of innuendo; and if we stopped using English words because of the innuendo, we wouldn't have much of our language left, because that's the way our foul little minds work.

Lollipop is a dirty word? I only know it as ice pop or a type of candy. *shrug*

now this word has questionable meanings too?? :P i never thought it it that way, i think i didn't at least. innocent like that said for most. anything can be dirtied in the right context, if you say it right.

"wanna come over and help me dust my keeeeyboaaaahrds?"

......

i just found my dog outside, holy crap.

*edit: no, hardly. only in the most certain contexts....

I've never thought of the word "lollipop" as dirty before. But yeah, enquiring minds ...

Then again, Flo Rida managed to ruin the word "whistle" for me.

That's not what I meant by "what it means in English" at all. I meant the actual candy that non-pedophile doctors feed kids after doctor's appointments (according to American movies. I never got anything from my lousy pediatricians. Blech!)
I'm not a big fan of those kinds of snacks (but as a child I would have devoured it because it was candy lol), I prefer other things like chocolate, or now in the heat, ice cream, like the Norwegian version of Lollipop, which is ice pop. There was nothing dirty said or intended in my post.

Pop is a palindromic, onomatopoeic word which can be a noun or a verb.

It can also be one's father, or a fizzy drink; and it has an association with weasels.

These are my thoughts on the matter, and form the basis of my latest claim to be the interim winner of this thread.

Don't hop behind the mop---or you'll sop.

Don't hop with your mop on my crop. That's over the top, you flop. Cop, make 'em stop! I just wanna listen to bebop and drink pop without spilling a drop. Yop(e).
