Edit: Also, now I can drive, so that would be a major help to her, especially now that she is living alone and given covid is still a thing.

Probably, I mean our income is zero other than the checks my mom sent. But, I think we will probably just pawn something else. I am also going to stop in at the career center again and touch base with them this week as well as keep aplying to places independently. Of course, getting a job won't help with funds before the check clears, but I need to have one so that we do have an income source. Also, my wife doesn't even know about the check because my mom told me not to tell her. Which is another reason I need a job so that it isn't obvious.

That sounds like a good plan. Don't hesitate to reach out for help from charities etc. That's what they're there for.

Yeah, I know there are food banks in this county, but I would really prefer not to do that as it is a rural insuler community and we are pretty much the only outsiders. I'd worry that some of them would act like when the community thought that the Douglas's were broke on the show Green Acres. And even if noone said or did anything differntly towards us, I'm sure they would be gossiping.

Yeah I can understand that. I tend to give out this advice a lot as I refer people to such places as part of my job.

I can't actually tell if you are joking or not, but crocheted knickers sounds... uncomfortable... Like an itchy wool sweater, but not a sweater...
