The studio heads had some serious doubts about casting Bruce Willis in 'Die Hard'

He was a bartender from Chicago who had become popular on a T.V. Show called 'Moonlighting', which was his first professional acting job.

Seems to have been a good choice.

In June 1989, two original carbon scripts of "Citizen Kane" sold for $231,000.

Dolores Del Rio and Orson Welles were a couple for four years; when he met her, he not only told her she was beautiful, but that he had been an admirer for some time.

When he went to South America, he had a lovely time, had frequent affairs, dropped all contact with her, ignored her to the point that she sent a series of worried/angry telegraphs, none of which he answered

She, heartbroken, accepted that things were over, and continued busy with her career, and met Lewis Riley, whom she would marry.

Many years later, she met Welles' daughter, who told her that she (Dolores) had been a legend in the Welles household (some accounts said 'a ghost').

Apparently Welles always, always was talking about her beauty, how much he had loved her, how she had dumped him,etcetera.

Of course, as soon as he returned from South America, he had married Rita Hayworth, but then Mr. Welles seems to have had a rather selective memory!

Raymond Burr did not originally audition for the lead role on Perry Mason. Since he was primarily known for playing antagonists and villains, he auditioned for Mason's rival, District Attorney Hamilton Burger. He was allowed to audition for Mason, but mostly as a formality, as the producers had no intention of casting him. He was only cast after the character's creator, Erle Stanley Gardner, viewed the audition tapes and insisted, "That's Perry Mason!"

Raymond Burr met Robert Benevides in 1960, they fell in love, became a couple, and were together for thirty-three years.

They owned an island together, had an orchid business together, and started a winery together, all labors of love, all successful. They were devoted to one another and Robert's name was always on every project as an equal partner; they both participated in the hard work that it took to run the endeavors.

Mr. Burr had little contact with his family; it is not known if there were negative feelings, or if he just had his happy life and was focused on what and whom he loved.

When he died, suddenly relatives appeared who fully expected to inherit.

They did not.

Everything was left to Robert.

He had also specified that no one but Robert was to receive anything.

Certain relatives were quite indignant, and made accusations and threats (legal)in the media.

Never made it to court.....the will was too clear, too specific.

Robert still lives in Sonoma County, California, and runs the Raymond Burr Winery, and remembers Raymond with love, as do his many, many fans.

^ It's funny just how much of an open "secret" it was. He went as far as concocting stories about a wife and son who died to explain why we wasn't married, and yet I've read articles from as far back as the 60s referring to him as a "confirmed bachelor," common slang from that time for a gay man. I also read an interview with him from the late 80s in which he's openly referring to Benevides as his "partner of 30 years," and the interviewer doesn't even comment on that. It seems to have been pretty well-known, and yet some people are still surprised to this day. "Perry Mason was gay?!" You'd think that after Rock Hudson, people would stop being surprised when a celebrity who isn't stereotypical and effeminate turns out to have been playing for the other team.

Agreed....to this day, people will contradict the obvious about Cary Grant, Randolph Scott, Phil Carey, Greta Garbo, Robert Reed, Marlene Dietrich, Alan Bates, Joan Crawford, Maria Felix, and (I only learned a couple of years ago) Lizzie Borden!


Of course, I include bisexuals, simply because the same denials and prejudices apply.

We got Total Recall and we got Minority Report, both based on short stories by the same author (Philip K. Dick), but we almost got Total Recall 2: The Minority Report. A script was written in the early 90s that co-opted the latter unrelated story as a sequel to the former.
