He was the first, and most successful, of three 'impostors' who claimed during the Time of Troubles to be the youngest son of Ivan the Terrible.

Not sure whether that's a 'D' or an 'F', Kyle, but anyway here's an 'E'.

Ethelred the Unready

King of England 978-1013, and 1014-16.

His 'title' is thought to be from the Old English Unraed, meaning 'ill-advised', rather than the modern 'unready'.

Sorry about that, but that was supposed to be a 'D'. There isn't a lot of them.

Francis I of France

Francis initiated the French Renaissance. His reign took place during the reigns of Henry VIII of England and Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor.

James I of England

James was the son of Mary, Queen of Scots, who was forced to abdicate in his favor when James was a year old. Through Mary, James was a descendant of Henry VII of England. Upon the death of Elizabeth I, he also become King of England, forming the union of the Scottish and English crowns in 1603. During his reign, James faced the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 and the "Golden Age" of Elizabethan literature and drama continued.

Kleomenes I

King of Sparta, c 519-489 BC. Interestingly, the Ancient Spartans had a dual monarchy system, ie two kings from separate royal families. Kleomenes had an adventurous foreign policy and an alcohol problem, which made him unpopular with the conservative Spartan nobility and his fellow king Demaratus, whom he managed to get deposed. He apparently went insane and committed suicide while in custody, or that at least was the official story.

Mehmed VI

The last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey (1918-22). By the end of the First World War, Britain and its allies had conquered and occupied most of the Ottoman territories in the Middle East, and Turkey lost its sovereignty over them. The new Turkish parliament, which came under the control of the anti-monarchical Mustapha Kemal Ataturk, voted in 1922 to abolish the sultanate, and Mehmed went into exile.

Qaboos bin Said al Said

Has been Sultan of Oman since 1970. Came to power through a military coup against his father, which was planned with the assistance of British Intelligence and approved by Prime Minister Harold Wilson. There is currently some concern about the succession, as Qaboos is 76 years old, reportedly in poor health, and has no children.

Rameses II, New Kingdom Egyptian Pharaoh. He is the Rameses who, supposedly, chased the Hebrews, under Moses, who were escaping into the "Promised Land," and whose forces were supposedly inundated by the Red Sea (which was supposedly "parted" by Moses).
