Most "unusual" phillas are caused by recessive genes and wouldn't express in the parent because they have a dominant form of the gene.

DNA copies itself using semi conservative replication. It splits in half, turning it into mRNA(I think). Each RNA half then pairs with a new complimentary RNA strand, turning it into a new piece of DNA.
