I'm pretty sure that the prefix here is "re" (as in "re-birth" -- "naissance" meaning "birth" in french.)

Your observation above is correct: ren- is not a real prefix.

Almost all prefixes in English have a Latin or Ancient Greek origin, and it is pretty much impossible to negotiate a game like this properly without an appreciation of this. It can still be fun trying though.
