I take my name from a comment a number of years ago from a fellow student. I had made some sort of commentary about the decline of civilization in relation to promiscious and irresponsible behaviour and it's celebration in popular culture, and their response was "Wow, it's like talking to some Victorian!"

Since then, I have occasionally wondered - "What WOULD a person time travelled from Queen Victoria's time to modern Canada think of all of this? Assuming the sudden transition didn't kill them or drive them stark raving mad, how would they react to our current culture?"

And so, I will occassionally post to these forums as if I am this bewildered Victorian lady, struggiling to make sense of the brave new wild world. Ofcourse, this role playing provides cover for my own incomprehension of what is considered "normal" here in North America in 2010 - and for my own perhaps slighltly too rigid "conservative" personal morals. Certaintly, there have been occassions in my life where things would have been much easier if I could have just said, "I'm sorry if I'm dancing against the music, I've only just arrived from 1872."

Welcome to WP, TheLastVictorian! I am a lot like you, in that the period in history that seems to resonate the most with me, is Victorian days. I also feel more than a little bewildered with the world around me, and would feel far more comfortable with a simpler way of life. One of my obsessions is actually most anything Victorian! :)

I"d like to get involved with the "steampunk" movement, but don't have:
the skills in seamstressing or metalworking, or anything like that
the time to develop these skills right now
the money to pay someone else to create steampunk items for me!

For now I content myself with Victorian literature.

I will be writing the traditional "hello I'm new and this is my favourite pizza" in the introduction section soon!

First, welcome to Wrong Planet.net ImageImage

The Art, Writing and Music forum would be a more appropriate place to discuss Victorianna
and Steam-Punk.
