This is something that I came up with yesterday; its my first shot at making a logic puzzle so don't cane me if its a bit too easy for your taste or if my portrayal of alchemists or magic offends your sensibilities or occult knowledge. However do give some criticque if you know for sure that certain things were redundant or if there are any linguistic glitches that are overtly problematic.
Oh yeah, and PSA - the first person to post the answer gets a cheekfull of dead fish. If you have the answer and want to doublecheck your solution (or believe there are two or more valid solutions) please PM me.
Anyway; the puzzle:
Quote:
Six alchemists had a row of laboratories in a mountain top observatory. All were researching the heavens via alchemical means and all were diligent in their pursuits. However, they realized they needed help with the mundane tasks and there were no nearby towns from which to hire. In reading from manuscripts in the library they found that they could conjure familiars for help.None of the alchemists had attempted such a thing to date and they were anxious to see what results they would gain from reflecting different colored flames through different gems with the prescribed incantations. The six had robes of black, red, white, grey, blue, and green. Each of the alchemists decided to try different lamps with different different reagents in their oil in order to to create different colors of flame to be filtered with different gems. This resulting process spawned six unique familiars, one for each of the alchemist's efforts. Their workstations were set up in a direct line from the outside wall with a balcony inward to a carved out rock face which made up the inner wall of their work area. See if you can figure out which alchemists used which lamps, which color of flame, which gem, and which familiar each ended up summoning.
- The white alchemist's work station is the deepest in the compound.
- The blue alchemist chose an opal as his filter stone
- The green alchemist decided to be more conservative with the light source and was the only one to use no reagents in his lamp oil.
- The red alchemist can see moonlight shining in over the shoulder of his counterpart to the left.
- The black alchemist decided on using a glass lamp for added diffusion of light.
- All watched with some apprehension as the gray alchemist brought forward a wraith.
- The brass lamp came with a reagent which lent its flame a green hue.
- The alchemist who had the iron lamp decided to filter its flame through a ruby.
- Black, blue, and gray alchemists sat consecutively from right to left
- The alchemist who used the onyx gem called forth a hyena.
- The alchemist with a green flame sat to the right of an alchemist who had a black flame.
- The alchemist who used the emerald looked two desks over to his left and nodded with approval at his colleague's choice of a green reagent.
- The alchemist filtering with a sapphire looked to his right in wonder as his nearest colleague called forth a dove.
- The alchemist with the blue flame looked to see a dove flew up from the station immediate to his left.
- The silver lamp set on the work station immediately to the right of the copper lamp.
- The alchemist who had used a violet flame called forth a caiman.
- The alchemist on the far left looked over to see his partner using an amethyst.
