^ ok my curiosity got the better of me.
Cornflake should get some kind of prize for this one.
The UK produced 45 RPM single above from 1965 features Wilson Pickett but also credits Cropper and Floyd. But there is no song title! The vinyl disc would play on a LP player with a thin spindle or could be cut with a knife to fit a 45 player - cool design a modern Maker can appreciate.
At first I thought the song was “In the Midnight Hour” written by Pickett and Cropper - it charted in 1965.
Wikipedia says:
"In the Midnight Hour" is a song originally performed by Wilson Pickett in 1965 and released on his 1965 album of the same name, also appearing on the 1966 album The Exciting Wilson Pickett. The song was composed by Pickett and Steve Cropper at the historic Lorraine Motel in Memphis, later (April 1968) the site of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Pickett's first hit on Atlantic Records,[1] it reached number one on the R&B charts and peaked at number 21 on the pop charts.[2]”
. . . But then I did another search.
The answer smacked me in the face - the song title WAS right there - the song title is a phone number complete with a dash after the first 3 digits and before the last 4 digits.
634-5789 sung by Wilson Pickett and written by Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper:
If you need a little lovin'
Call on me...(alright)
If you want a little huggin'
Call on me baby...(mmhmm)
Oh I'll be right here at home.
All you gotta do is pick up the telephone and dial now
6-3-4-5-7-8-9 (that's my number!)
6-3-4-5-7-8-9
And if you need a little huggin'
Call on me...(that's all you gotta do now)
And if you want some kissin'
Call on me baby...(all right!)
No more lonely nights, when you'll be alone.
All you gotta do is pick up your telephone and dial now...
6-3-4-5-7-8-9 (that's my number!)
6-3-4-5-7-8-9
Oh. I'll be right there.
Just as soon as I can. (oh)
And if I'll be a little bit late now,
I hope that you'll understand (whoa-yah... allright)
And if you need a little lovin'
Call on me...(Lord have mercy)
And if you want some kissin'
Call on me baby...(that's all you got to do now...)
No more lonely nights, when you'll be alone.
All you gotta do is pick up your telephone and dial now...
