Hawk

While I've seen several hawks together on occasion, one of the more amazing things I saw was a group of well over a hundred hawks. I was driving along one afternoon and started to notice hawks perched on top of fence posts. I looked closer and there were also hawks standing in the ditch between the fence posts, some in the field on the other side of the fence, and some on the other side of the road as well.

I counted something like 120 hawks in that group. But I had passed a number before I started to count them and I likely missed a good number of them as well.

Most of the times you see a hawk, you only see them alone. They are rather solitary birds. As I understand it, they only come together like that for breeding and for migration. All the times I have seen them grouped together it was clearly for the purpose of migration.

^ Nice. I normally only see single birds, except when there are a few males doing rollercoaster flights to impress some females.
Best was when one shot down and took a small rodent about 20 feet in front of me as I was walking down a narrow overgrown path.
I didn't see the rodent until the bird had landed and killed it, appearing out of nowhere and dispatching it all in one action, when it spread its wings over the kill and looked back at me as if challenging me to come any closer.
I had no intention of moving - I'd stopped completely, spellbound by this incredible bird with its high-speed precision attack and amazing eyesight. After a couple of seconds looking at me it took off with the rodent in its claws.
