Hi,
Today I went to a yoga class, and one of the people fell asleep & started snoring very loudly. I found it very funny, and was trying so hard to not grin or laugh. I looked around the room and noticed that no-one else found it funny.

Yesterday I went to a talk, and a man sat in front of me bent down to get something out of his bag. He let out a loud fart. I immediately found this hilarious, but glansing round the room I spotted that other people had heard him but that they didn't find it amusing. I fought very hard not to laugh.

It got me thinking; why did I find both the events funny but other people didn't.

I decided to find an online test to discover what my sense of humour is, and I found this one:
 What's Your Sense of Humor? - TEST

My result was: Slapstick

Maybe you may like to take the test to find out what your sense of humour is.

My type is sarcastic, although I do have a tendency towards self-deprecation.

Dark Humour. You are probably attracted to horror and things most people don't find funny! You might be a dark person yourself, or just have a unique sense of humor! Your show: Shaun of the Dead or Evil Dead.

What's Your Sense of Humor?
Slapstick

Slapstick is comedy where you find it funny when people get hurt or fall down. You probably have a loud laugh and are seen as one of the guys (especially if you are a guy!) Your show: Scream 2 or The Three Stooges

Well I do like the Three Stooges... :)

- Honestly i don't get why i ended up at dark humor, i mean well, i do like Shaun of the dead and evil dead, but my humor is far from dark otherwise - at least i hope so.. :S

I think most people would find the things you've described quite funny but some will be better at holding their laughter in. I'm not very good at holding mine in and always laugh in situations I feel I shouldn't. I got slapstick on the test which is accurate I think.

Dark humor, but I don't know why. I don't really like the dark humor.

A more appropriate response for me would be "Bathroom Humor."

As I have found is usually the case with such quizzes, there are some questions that I cannot answer because NONE of the answers apply to me. So if I just make a guess, then that question's input is meaningless and the test has no validity (not that such amateur quizzes have much validity anyway). I know they are supposed to be just for fun, but since most of the time I find that I can't relate to the choices given, these "fun" quizzes just remind me of how "different" I am from most other people.

For example, in question number 6 I am not familiar with most of the names listed so I can't say who is "funniest" to me. If they had given George Carlin or Bill Hicks as one of the choices, then it would have been easy to answer. The only name in number 6 I am familiar with is Joey from the Friends TV show. I do not consider his character to be very funny, but since I don't know who the other people are I just couldn't answer the question. I have heard of Margaret Cho but don't know her routines, and I haven't ever seen any of the other choices listed.

In question number 7 none of the games are my favorite. I basically dislike them all equally for different reasons. Why doesn't the game option include such things as WW-I aerial combat or WW-2 Pacific war submarine simulations? or at least Chess or Backgammon! I haven't played such games for ten years or more, but when I used to play some games those would be the ones I would play. I did play World of Warcraft and Rift a bit in the past few years to help my daughter's characters along in between her visits, but consider it mostly a vast waste of time and not really fun.

For me, studying science and history is a "game" of sorts and when I learn something new or understand something deeper it is like I beat a boss for that level. Or when I contemplate my own existence and consciousness, sometimes the universe and life itself can be thought of in terms of a game.

As for humor, I appreciate much of the satire of Monty Python's Flying Circus, the first few seasons back in the 1970s of Saturday Night Live, and I very much enjoy hearing or reading puns, and even more when I make great puns (but frequently nobody else gets them but me).

I appreciate dark humor, and that is one of the results even though I could not finish the test, so that is probably the best answer for me (although I am also corny, slapstick and sarcastic and probably a bit of everything they have as results). I am reminded of that tragic accident with the airliner that crashed landing at San Francisco a few months ago. Apparently a teen girl was on the runway out of the wreckage apparently alive and okay (more or less especially compared to some of those still in the wreckage) when she was run over and killed by a fire truck coming to the rescue. Now that is horrible and I sympathize with the girl and her family, but at the same time I see a sick twisted humor in what happened. "Oh! I'm alive! I survived the crash! Here I am out on the runway... ARRGGGHHH" It reminds me of the Final Destination movies or some of the Twilight Zone episodes. Oh, and some Twilight Zone episodes had great humor in them too! I can relate to cosmic jokes.

Now these are horrible things to happen and I don't wish them on anybody and I am very sorry it happened, but gosh darn it, if it were in a movie or TV show it could be presented in such a way where people would laugh at it. Other people have pointed out that much of humor basically consists at laughing at other peoples' misfortune, and a great thing can be when one can laugh at one's own misfortune instead of crying about it.

I mean, I could be crying all the time considering the way my neurology affects how I experience life so differently than most of my fellow humans, and how things that many people enjoy very much (such as playing or watching team sports, dancing, drinking, attending loud concerts, even sex with a partner) are not fun at all for me. I gotta get some fun somehow, and if making horribly witty puns is the only way, or seeing humor in tragic events does it, well, oh well.

It amazes me that considering how sad and hurt I feel almost all of the time, that several of my songs (especially some of the newer ones I have come up with the past year or so) apparently have a "happy" sound to them according to several different people. Also, I play guitar on the bicycle mainly to relieve my own pain (I don't know how or why it works for me, but it does), but I am gratified that when other people see me it frequently brings a smile to their face and brightens their day and their mood. I have been told this by several people over the years. So what I do as The Bicycling Guitarist is apparently "funny" too.

All those questions seemed pointless, since none of the answers provided seemed appropriate, but I prefer it dark and /or brainy. I'm amused by the inanity in which neurotypical humans engage on a daily basis without ever questioning why they do these things - Monty Python were wonderful at parodying the absurdity of human behavior. I like situations that make normal people uncomfortable, it makes me smile to watch them squirm. Word games are delightful - Groucho Marx was the master of the non-sequitur retort. Slapstick has it's place, but a steady diet of that Three Stooges stuff bores me. I wish Bill Hicks were still alive, he was brilliant.

The most compelling and amusing film I've seen in the past year was Deadgirl and I'm pretty sure the creators didn't intend for it to be taken as a comedy.

Yes some of those questions are weird. A lot of them did seem inappropriate.

What's Your Sense of Humor?

Raunchy

You have an interest in the gross and goofy! You have more of an immature sense of humor, but that's okay, you make the little things in life funny! Your show: 40 Year Old Virgin and National Lampoon
