Indeed. Why are the cones hollow? One might think that a solid cast iron cone stops traffic more efficiently.

The first cones were made out of concrete, and were in New York in 1914. I've not been able to find any more information though.

P.P.S. Just testing my Hebrew keyboard: prompted by your avatar displaying חרוט which I take to be "cone" in Hebrew… yes, the keyboard works. Fine.

P.P.P.S. It's not the standard MS Hebrew keyboard but rather one of my own design. In the MS keyboard the numerous niqqud and cantillation marks are hidden behind clumsy key sequences. Mine is more straightforward.

Ohio should be renamed the orange barrel state. Always under construction. Cones and barrels everywhere. You'd prolly like it here.
