I found a test of nonconformism here, and I'd be interested to see how others score on it.

My scores:
Need to be unique: 67%
Need to NOT conform: 89%
Willingness to express dissent: 96%
Overall score: 79%

.... the test seemed geared toward teens, and it's a little bit different perspective when you're 45. I don't need to dye my hair purple to be different. I just am. And it doesn't matter if I want to be different, I simply am ... furthermore, I am fully aware that "those people" who might not like it, well, they don't pay my rent. It's diffent when you don't have to attend high school, and don't live under mommy and daddy's roof. But as for non conformist, I am female, yet I drove a big truck over the road for a few years.... moved out of the house when I was 18-- which was in the middle of winter, and THEN I graduated high school (in other words, had my own apartment in high school) and never went back to the "parents" house. I am female, but never even considered procreating, and I don't own one single dress. But I am married, 17 years now.... to a man. And he's happy with what I am. whatever that is.

This test doesn't really seem like anything scientifically valid but it was a bit of fun!

I scored this:

Need to be unique: 84%
Need to NOT conform: 31%
Willingness to express dissent: 87%
Overall score: 66%

Tbh I was a bit shocked. And I didn't like being called a freak at the end of it aha

I have a hard time with this test just like I do with any other test of this type (agree/disagree). I just find them too black and white and have a difficult time deciding which answer to choose. For example, if you strongly disagree with a person and keep your mouth shut because saying something would be counter productive to getting what you want. Would that be marked as 1 or 3? and I'm not sure about the 'need to be unique', I just do my own thing. Is that really a need to be unique or just being who you are?

I think this unwillingness to dissent is something I should work on. When I see problems or inefficiencies around me I just roll my eyes or take the initiative to just start doing things differently to lead by example but I rarely pipe up and share my views. Where many people with an ASD are told they're loud and talk too much I'm always told to speak up and asked why I don't talk much. And when I think I've found a potential solution to a problem for some silly reason I do what's called 'submarining' my idea by keeping it to myself.

ok, dillogic, it's ok not to take the test. But I would just like to gently point out, that sometimes "freak" is a colloquial term for "unusual" or "different" .... I quote from Urban Dictionary:
3. freak
1.)A term that is a 'catch-all' for mainstream society to use to describe anyone who they may believe isn't
mainstream. Such as mallgoths, punks, hardcore kids, emos, metalheads, goths and whatnot... pretty
much used to describe anyone wearing black.

I am not a freak either, but I will admit to being unusual. :) the term is used in a friendly way, { just this once }, I promise.

Need to be unique: You like to be a somewhat different than others.
Need to NOT conform: You prefer to conform to others' standards, but don't mind acting differently occasionally.
Willingness to express dissent: You are typically respectful when you disagree, but are willing to speak your mind if it is appropriate.

Overall score: 49%
