Simply count, but you cant say the number. You have to give a cultural reference like "Ben Folds________" instead of "five". If you're desperate and you cant think of a numerical phrase for say "23" you can use math and say the "number of horsemen of the apocalypse times half of "the dirty dozen" minus the number of dieties in Islam ( six times four minus one). Also (to cut you some slack) you can give an answer like "the number of member nations in OPEC)- publicly known things like that- for a problematic number. Some numbers have more cultural baggage ( thus are easier) than others.
