Had to have a click through this thread to see what others wrote.

For me.. home. And being thankful that I'm Not an American, mostly due to the current White House Administration and political climate South of the border right now.

the frightfully high cost of living in Vancouver.

This one made me laugh. Yep. I'm making this post from the kitchen of my parents Million dollar+ home, where I live & pay rent, in the suburbs of Vancouver. Our real estate & rental market is absolute sheer insanity right now and it's decimating the middle/working class. People are working 2 & 3 jobs and still not making ends meet or getting ahead. Many have left and are leaving as if their goal is to own their own home, save for retirement, raise children etc it's impossible to do here unless you earn a top 0.x% income. Maybe we'll see a crash? Maybe not.. fortunately I'm somewhat insulated from the insanity because I have the stability of renting from family, no intent to raise a family, and no longer care about owning my own home here. The Sun will still rise & set every day, I'll work, play, eat food, be happy, and carry on working towards other goals regardless of whether houses are worth $1 or $10M. (And in some neighbourhoods there's hardly a house worth, presently, less than $10M. I've worked on $60M houses.)

First thing I associate with Canada is gratitude and humility. I didn’t compete for or earn the advantage of being born here.

Interesting perspective.. yes, we have a lot to be thankful for. However, there are also a lot of s**t things that the gangsters in suits that run our country do that we ought to be ashamed of. Tarsands, asbestos export, selling Billions worth of weapons to various countries, being one of the largest money laundering centres of the world, BC is the third largest narco-state in the Americas (iirc), nuclear industry and on and on.. sure, there are worse countries out there, but it's not as if we're perfect - we also have a lot to be ashamed of & sorry for. IMO

Terrible health insurance for anything above basic care... Better hope you don't need emergency care or cancer treatment. Also strict gun control and high taxes.

Uh, our health insurance is pretty good, I think. Sure, they don't cover optical or dental, but my family members who've had various cancer treatments and surgeries haven't ever received a bill for anything. Employment insurance/medical ei/disability $ to live on while sick, recovering, or retired can be pretty low and limited, yes, but if you need to go to an ER for anything (I went a few days ago!) or get cancer treatments it's all covered and most people pay nothing more out of pocket.

I agree, 100%, that Canada isn’t perfect but I think it’s about as good as it gets. Health care is great in Canada...it’s free! Here, no one decides not to see their family doctor because they can’t afford the $80 appointment fee.

Yes, overall we probably have life about the best in the world - at least on par with other great nations.

Just wanted to point out that while we don't pay a fee in person, our healthcare is NOT FREE. We all pay BILLIONS of dollars a year for it in taxes.
