No one on the internet knows how to spell "weird".*

I've been using the internet since 1996, and I've yet to see one person spell it correctly. Its not a difficult word, you'd find it in a second grade spelling book. And the spelling they use, "wierd" doesn't even make sense from a pronunciation standpoint.

What bugs you out of your mind.

*I know I have no room to be talking because my posts are riddles with typos that I never care to go back and correct. But then again, their typos, not the same repeated misspellings.

Hey Triangular_Trees! Just for funsies, I Googled my username + the word "weird" on the WrongPlanet.net site, and I got 41 hits. I'm not saying that *I* spelled the word correctly 41 times on WrongPlanet, just that *somebody* must have done so on a page where I also posted.

In German, ie makes the eee sound: e.g. "wiener schnitzel".

Its one of those english language anomalies that plague those trying to learn the language, or at least write it properly. One of the rules we are taught is "i" before "e" except after "c". unfortunatly there are lots of other cases where this rule doesn't apply but its the one that tends to stick so when in doubt people tend to follow it. Most people don't proofread what they write so it would slip past that it doesnt look right.

I remember I used to spell it "ei", but I started on internet chat everyone spelled it "ie", so I switched as well, also because of that "i before e" rule. It wasn't until years later that a friend spelled it correctly, and that made me look it up.

I've spelled weird correctly since 2nd grade, since Muppet Babies Gonzo was one of my personal heroes.

I've seen people who constantly misspell it as "wired".

That's how my mind reads it when it's misspelled.
