I heard about this site ---> http://www.freerice.com/ <----- on the local news this morning. It tests your vocabulary and for every word you get right 20 grains of rice are donated to feed children poverty-stricken countries. It may not sound like much but so far the site has raised enough "rice" to feed 1,000,000 for one day. That's a lot of rice!! !

So learn a word, feed a child! :D

This is GREAT!! ! :D I'm currently trying to beat (or at least get close to) Laus score of Level 52. Have made it to level 47 so far. Its not super-easy either. All of you "big-brained-people" should give it a try., and post your score. It's addictive.
Thank You so much for sharing this BlessedMom, I love playing it. I know ALOT more words than I thought I did.

Talk about addictive, ... I must stop cos got two films out from rental to watch this evening, but I started on that and couldn't stop except had to "do" goodnight with son.

I got "best vocab level 50" and current when stopped was at "48" . :) :D

Wow, I like that game. It is really addictive. I have it set up to save my level and score, but it's quite glitchy. It saves two different things, one when I type www before the site when I go there, and one other seperate game when I don't. It's strange. So, now I just don't type www

:D Oh no, you don't fail. That isn't bad at all.

That's what I like about this game. No matter what level you have, you are still earning "rice" that is donated. Like I said, it doesn't seem like much but it all adds up. As Reika said, "It's a win/win game"!

Yeah, but I only know meanings of the words, which the quiz doesn't ask for. How would I know that 'to deprecate' means 'to belittle' when 'deprecated' means 'replaced by a newer version/only here for reasons of compatibility'? It's kinda frustrating.

You havent "Lost" in Emulation. (see what I did there  )
My 21 year old NT is playing at her house w/ a level 31. It may just be because we're older and have had more time to acquire a larger vocabulary. Mine comes from all the books I'v read my whole life since I did't have friends.
Keep trying, it gives you the answer when your wrong and the word eventually comes up again, and then you've learned it. Plus the rice, is still being won.

The man that developed this quiz and site started out trying to find a way to teach his teenage son strong vocabulary skills. He wanted to find a way that would make the learning meaningful. His idea is brilliant. So, instead of looking at is failing, maybe try looking at as "learning with a purpose". I know that it will be harder for you if English is your second language.

I got tired of it when I dropped below 30. I had expected a score much worse.

Logic is just as important as vocabulary when playing this "game" it seems. Most of my guesses turned out to be correct, that is, most of the questions, since I knew nearly nearly none of the words to begin with. Is that cheating? If it is, then it's a good form of cheating (cheating in order to donate rice).

I know. I'm just being snide to the parson who took issue with one of my topics.

My top was 40 and I dropped to 35.
