Do you look like a teenager?

Two months ago. This is me two months ago. Twenty-nine years old. I do have some make-up, so that could help a little.

Six months ago, at work. This is in January. I was still 28. I had not slept that well, so the lines in my face are more visible. I think I look older here than it the more recent photo.

Wearing a cap (1). Wearing a cap (2). These are from last Christmas (7 months ago). I was 28, but I think caps somewhat help with the younger look. I do not know how old I look, because I am used to seeing myself. I do know lots of younger guys who look so much older, though.

I also find it annoying to be mistaken for being younger than I am. Mostly because of how it bothers my children. I cannot count how many times people have spoken to my thirteen year old daughter and I and made mention of us being sisters. It used to embarrass my daughter, but she has become used to it and now she will mess with people like cashiers while we are in a line somewhere... scolding me the way a mother might, about how I cannot have a snikers bar before dinner. She figures that if they cannot tell one of us is clearly a parent, well then they have that bit of surreal coming to them. My twelve year old does not have her sisters sense of humor about it. She gets mad at her friends for dwelling on how young I must be (18 is the average age guess). She also tries to get me to dress like 'an old lady' for things like school orientation so she will not be embarrassed by having a mother who looks like she could be a senior classmate.


The thing that I find most curious though, is that I have looked this age for a long time, gray hair included. I began going gray at age 17, have not grown an inch since I was in seventh grade, and have weighed pretty much the same since I was a teen as well. People used to tell me how old I looked as a child and now it has reversed completely. It is interesting to me that I am not alone in this. Most of the people I knew who looked old as kids look older than they are now...

I've come to believe it's because of the way I dress and my kind of awkward, head-down, seeming closed-off-ness.

I think those are factors, as well. I see other people my age dress in a "more boring" way than I do, limiting themselves to conservative clothes, so to say. They may not use "young" haridos, either.

But there's also the factor that our eyes or skin or something else makes us look younger in general. Try to see if that applies to you, as well. Focus on your face only, and compare it with the others'.

I have always looked much younger than I am. Though since I had my son (he's always with me wherever I go) people finally treat me like I'm an adult. I'm short and I must have a young looking face because even in pictures people have thought I was much younger.

One time in college I was out shopping with my then-boyfriend who was only a few months older than me and a sales lady thought he was my dad. I found that hilarious! Though my husband is a decade older than me and has a daughter, and I never did find it the least bit funny when people have thought that I was his daughter or when people would refer to his daughter and myself as his "girls". Now his daughter is almost a foot taller than me as a teenager so I'm sure that confuses people, especially when I was pregnant!! If I wasn't so serious around strangers I probably could have had a really good time messing with people.

I've often wonder this too. I've consitantly maintained a young apearance relative to my actual age. As a teenager, I loked 2-4 years younger than I was, in my early 20s I maintained a 15-17 year range appearance, and now, at 27, still look about 18-19. Most people think my son is my younger brother.

My father (Undiagnosed, but very AS) is the same way. He is nearly 60, and looks in his late 30s.

My guess has always been that I use facial expressions far less than normal people do, and as a result have fewer lines/wrinkles forming. Or something to that effect. Could be anything though. It's interesting to think it may be related to AS.

No. I look much older then I am.

I think its due more to genetics then anything else. My direct family all looks older then they really are. While my wifes family, all NT, they all look like they are 18. Even the ones well into their forties. They still get carded when buying booze.

I also have facial grimaces as a motor tic. They have added 'old man' winkles around my eyes.

I am 22 and people keep telling me I look like I am 15 or 16 years old. I hate that though. Everyone thinks my brother is older than me.

I'm 23, but people usually guess my age anywhere from 14 to 18.

I'm almost thirty yet everyone still guesses my age to be around nineteen-twenty. My appearance hasn't changed much over the past ten years, my weight now is still the same as when I was in high school. Being tall and underweight, my co-workers (mostly female) are usually jealous that my eating habits consist of living off the vending machine or involve anything not buried beneath salad. To annoy them and their insecure weight issues I usually remark about my pure ramen and coffee diet, along with my fears that my love handles will suffer from this delicious cinnamon bun. ( I've found that sarcasm is useful in getting away from pesky small talk, I wish I discovered this when I was younger. )

One time my wife and I went to a doctors appointment together, one couple in the waiting room asked her if I was her son (she's six months older then me). After exclaiming "that's my HUSBAND", there was an awkward silence that I was rather amused wasn't a result of anything I said or did. I contently resumed reading my book and resisted the urge to ask my wife: "mom, can we get ice cream when we're done?"

I like being mistaken for being younger, also I like not taking other people seriously because I've found that people get along with me more if I'm a smart ass then if I was my usual distant self. I don't know why this works so well, I haven't quite figured it out.

I'm older than flowering plants, but people think I am in my late 20s at most.

I am in my 30s and am still carded for alcohol and people do not believe I am "old enough" to have three children. I recently had lunch with a friend from middle school, and one of the first things she said to me was, "My god, do you not age? Could you at least have a wrinkle or something?" I'm pretty used to it, as I have always been mistaken to be years younger than I am.

I'm 57 and got carded a few months ago. I do admit I was wearing a hat and the bar was dark.

I went bald early, so I looked older than I was until I started looking younger. The current style of shaved heads or very short hair for men works in my favor now.

I look and act like a teenager. It must be the rebel in me.
