I hate Christmas. I'd rather celebrate Kwanza. I always have hated Christmas and always will. Maybe I'll go into deatail someother time.

I'm happy that Christmas is over. It wasn't a very good one, as far as the social aspect is concerned.

There's nothing inherently wrong with Christmas, but people have such high expectations that it creates a lot of stress.

And every form of media is repeating the same message that everybody is so frickin happy ... because it's Christmas.

So it's a relief n January when I can get back to my regular day to day life which isn't really pleasant, but I've learned to deal with it.

i am utterly susceptible to the vibe of xmas. it reels me in hook, line and sinker. from the beginning of fall until december 31, i am so into the feeling of it, and come new year's eve i am so depressed going back to a drab gray downer of january i just feel like ditching it all. it is the only time of year when people at least make a pretense of being decent to one another [ignoring toy store mothers battling each other over short supplies of the latest silly doodad]. i like the colors and the music and the drab gray skies which seem so much happier in december than in the following january. it is a fantasy come-to-life once per year, and it never returns soon enough for me.

I can so relate. I hate them too. They are such hypocrytes. I hated Christmas as a kid, I only liked getting new things but everything else I hated. When I was old enough to understand the concept that Christmas was meant to celebrate Jesus' birthday and that December 25 probably isn't the actual date, I stoped celebrating Christmas. It's so comercialized anyway and there is nothing "merry" about it. My routine is turned upside town, people think they can come in and out unnanounced.

Luckily we've never had carolers anyplace we'ved lived. If we did it would not go over very well. No figgy pudding for you but if they wouldn't leave soon enough, I'd spray them with the hose. If they tried to reinact the scene from Skipping Christmas, I'd grab the guns. Cristmas is just an excuse to play stupid music, use tacky decorations and to crowd stores and trample people. African culture once being a special intrest, I'd rather celebrate Kwanza. People say it's made up but then so is society's idea of Christmas. I perfer Easter and Halloween becuase there isn't a huge fuss over them. Plus it was so fun to put up decorations for Halloween just to piss off our hick fundemendist Christian neighbors.

For me, I can go to a movie by myself on a random Tuesday evening and that's perceived as well within the normal spectrum of behavior. But you can't do that on Christmas eve. The Christmas season is like a drawn out Friday or Saturday night where it's not viewed as "normal" to be by yourself (well, I often like doing things by myself, and I am medium choosey about friends)

Another example is sitting in a sports bar watching the Superbowl by yourself, something else that I have done (on that one, I wished I had better alternatives, and have learned I don't need to watch the whole game to get the flavor of it)

I hate Christmas. I'm glad when it's all over!
Expense, crowds, shopping, too much food, relatives, children (uurrk!) and of course the only entertainment is the television, which is stuffed with lots of ghastly festive programmes. And it all starts earlier every year - on the cusp of August now!!

I love all the Neo Pagan Festivals. No pressure, no crowds, no malls! I'm Free!
