When I was 16 I saw a 38 year old. The youngest I have been with has been about ten years. For me, I am too different from most people to limit myself to a specific age or specific type. I look for connections. I don't ever expect to find anything permanent.

I see people as all rushing by each other on an air current. Some get caught up with each other for a short time before becoming unentangled and pulled apart again. It is what you do and take from those brief encounters that provide meaning. The rest of it is just BS rules that people apply to themselves.

The age discrepancy is like a red flag to me, no matter if it is an older man, younger woman or an older woman, younger man scenario.

I agree. I know a lot of people argue that "age doesn't matter," but from what I've seen:

- The older person tends to be attracted to the younger person for a dumb/disturbing/just-plain-wrong reason (e.g., my 27-year-old brother, who's dating a 19-year-old girl because he wants to marry a virgin and everyone his age is too impure for his taste)

- The younger person tends to be impressionable and really believes he/she is too darn mature/special/good for his/her peers (e.g., the 19-year-old girl my brother is dating, who dresses like a 27-year-old and has been trying to educate my brother about certain things as though she knows more about them than my brother does)

And I know an 18-year-old is technically a legal adult, but seriously? What kind of idiot would consider an 18-year-old an adult anyway?

I'm glad the charges were dropped. I don't think it should be illegal to have sex with someone who's 16, no matter how old you are.

As long as all parties are consenting adults, it doesn't bother me how large the age discrepancy in romantic relationships is, and I'd be willing to enter into such a relationship myself. In fact, at the moment I'm getting on quite well with a woman who's 15 years older than me (I'm 19), and may well end up going out with her. I don't know or care if that's an unconventional age difference. I don't draw arbitrary boundaries around people for things like this.
