At almost 71 I still think much as I did as a child.

It seems much of "growing up" is supposed to be about casting away children's things (the "things" which basically kept me alive and sane during my childhood isolation) and taking on the mantle of "responsibility" of the adult world (the "adult" world that rejected me) in order to become a "respectable and contributing" member of the community.

When I was growing up it wasn't hard to see "which side of the bread my butter was on" so I rejected much of the propaganda. I'm happy I did.

Maturity is how well i conduct myself.
Generally i feel one can only get as old as the "heart" is.
Immaturity i consider to be foolishness.

Having just been diagnosed at age 53, just before DSM-V wiped out Aspergers, i've discovered a lot of the "whys" about myself that i previously thought was my defectiveness.
In this i have grown immensely, yet still have a long way to go.
Does this mean i've matured?
Yes. i conduct myself with much more presence of mind in Reality.
Much of what used to send me into depressions now can be taken in stride as social autism.

Before I ver heard of Asperger's I always called myself a "Late Bloomer." I've been about 10-years behind the 8-ball all this time. What's annoying is that now I am finally (just barely) mature of mind enough to consider reproducing, and my body is too old! Oh, the irony!

I think it important to not confuse childish with childlike. Is it childish to want to go to the water park? Is it childish to climb trees? Is it childish to watch cartoons? I happen to have in my backyard my very own bouncy castle in which I use for my 20 minute cardio workout. My neighbors think I am weird for doing it but tell them that I will take it over a treadmill any day. You just can't beat the workout you get from it
