Perhaps I don't have the traditional Pachelbel. The disc sounds like a computer synthesizer made to sound like an old peddle or pump organ and its very low frequency tones for the most part.

but anyway, I find music can affect my mood too. I recognised Pachelbel's music, but would never have been able to put a name to it.

I find it calming music :)

Love this song. Have a vinyl compilation of various renditions, including one amazingly good one on pedal steel guitar!

Here's a neat site for sampling various interpretations of the Canon:

Pachelbel's Canon in D - Variations

Enjoy!

Sorry Bazza didn't intend to derail your post by altering the subject. Actually I meant it as a way to get free counseling via my therapist's recommendation on the music. Or rather its not counseling I guess but a method to calm down during panic attacks or high anxiety.

The 4-7-8 breathing method also works for panic attacks. Breathe in through nose 4 seconds, hold breath 7 seconds, breathe out slowly through mouth 8 seconds. Its complicated how it works and I couldn't explain it now verbatim. But has something to do with panic attacks cause an imbalance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood stream. By breathing this way it forces the body to exchange the CO2 molecules faster than usual as the CO2 causes the chest pain and weird breathing sometimes experienced in a panic attack.

Just an afterthought... I think seeing a psych has also helped me because...well I'm physically attracted to her. I don't think its all transference though because the minute we met I was like OMG how am I going to talk to her cuz she's so pretty. So now it kinda gives me a reason to live otherwise I have nothing to look forward to besides the next Harry Potter film and getting to visit with my sexy psych. I'm having withdrawl though cuz I haven't been able to see her in a couple weeks. I like it that we have similar political views and that she agrees with me that most of society is bad though she does not like me using the term s**thead.

Twice as a kid, 4 yrs old then at around 14, went to a psychologist for therapy.

Neither one helped, i talked on about no nonsense stuff and I seen no point in babbling on about stuff to someone who bears the 'normal' banner which I should correct myself to strive for...

I can do on my own more effecient within my own mind more effecient and effectively than a normal (NT) accomplishes by going to a psychotherapist.

Yes, it does look strange. Can't honestly say that it cured me of anything, but it did help me relax, and that was a plus at the time.

Sorry for the long silence; I meant to update you on the tapping before now. I asked her about it and she said it wasn't EFT but instead TFF. But I forgot what that stood for. She is certified by the American BodyTalking Institute. Last visit she made me touch my foot while she tapped on my head and shoulder. It's really strange and it didn't help my MD had told her that I thought the whole tapping think was odd and had asked her about it so what does she do but tell my psych I said this which probably offended her. She asked if I had any objection to it so I told her know that I was willing to try anything as long as it doesn't cause pain (or worse nightmares). Since my other psych gave me worse PTSD nightmares by doing EMDR on me.

TFF I've never heard of but I have heard of TFT...Thought Field Therapy. It's similar except it uses different tapping routines based on the problems you're trying to address...EFT uses the same routine no matter what.

Well that was nice of your MD...Ughh I'm sure that was awkward. Yeah I'll try just about anything too, as long as it doesn't hurt and can't do any harm...the worst it can do is not work and then that's just one more thing I can cross off the list. :D

It might have been TFT instead of TFF. I maybe should get her to write it down for me next time. I got clobbered on the noggin a few weeks ago at work and got yet another concussion so I'm kinda forgetful so not 100% positive about the name of it.

This week when I went she tapped on the top and side of my head to stop dizziness. I got the flu or some kinda stomach virus last week and have been getting dizzyheaded whenever I move around much even though I haven't had a fever in a week. So she decided to work on the dizziness this time. She is planning to treat the PTSD with the tapping. Another therapist tried EMDR on me to treat the PTSD and she made my nightmares worse! So the new therapist says EMDR is too harsh on some people and it will be much easier on me to use tapping. I wish I could find something online to research it-- it is so bizarre though the women seems 100% sincere and she is a ph.D. so hopefully its not woo-woo stuff.

I'm off to see a Psych on Thursday, for the first time since my DX. It's f**king expensive @ over £100 per hour.

I'll try to remember to come back and let you know what I think. I'm 47 by the way!

Timberwolf,

How did your psych appointment go? What did you think of them? As for the cost that is probably par with what US psychs charge. Though generally if you ask them nicely they can charge less for cash patients if they are on limited income or without insurance. After all the idea is that most of them got into the psych business to help others so most would rather charge less than to dismiss a patient that may be in major emotional distress.

Meds are good for anxiety and my psych helps me too feel confident about myself.

Actually i guess i am extreamly lucky, i live in canada and as a result have found a good therapist at a "free" clinic.(read healthcare) She seems quite good to me. (mabe it is just that she is the first such person i have seen who knows of aspergers.)
I think by now i would have comited suicide if not for her-so i would say i am glad i went to see her.

I've been seeing a new psych the past few weeks. Anyone ever heard of something called "body tapping" because she does that as part of her treatment? It was really strange, okay actually it looked absurd, but I let her do it. What the heck!

EFT...it's actually very calming (or I've found it to be myself), I stumbled upon it a couple of years back when my stress level was at it's max.

Ticker...sounds like you found a winner. I'd keep her.

Hey thanks Beenthere! I've read about EFT on the Mercola website. So this is what she is doing to me? I goggled body tapping and couldn't come up with anything solid to explain it. So I wondered if it was bogus and like some placebo cure thing where she just convinces me she is healing me when she is doing nothing. The way she does it is to hold my wrist and feel around on it...says she is muscle testing me to get a reading...somehow from that she can tell what is wrong or hurting then she goes to tapping lightly on the top of my head and also on my chest right below the neck. Its still really weird to observe. I'm going to an appt with her in a few minutes so I'll let you know how that goes.

It sounds like she's using Applied Kinesiology techniques

I saw a clinical psychologist for life coaching, because I wanted help finding strategies to organise my life. Honestly, she wasn't very helpful. I saw a cognitive behavioural therapist for the same reason, and it wasn't very helpful either. I didn't mind the sessions - it was quite nice to have someone listen and try to understand - but in terms of a longterm difference to my life, it wasn't effective.

What I do find really useful, in terms of relaxation and helping with being overwhelmed and overstimulated, is cranial osteopathy. That has an amazing effect on me.

In terms of self-understanding, I find it useful to write down my thoughts and feelings every day. That puts my brain into some kind of order.
