Current perseverations: Ironically, autism has fascinated me since I was in my 20's, although I didn't know about Asperger's until recently. Also learning differences such as dyslexia have been a major fascination. This is a good thing since my 7 yo is probably on the spectrum somewhere. Other major interests are books, especially science fiction/fantasy, soap making, cosmetics even if I don't actually wear them, religion (which covers a whole lot more than just organized religion eg, why are humans religious in the first place?) and just about anything that grabs my interest. I love the internet.
When did you discover AS? I've been interested in autism for a very long time, but it wasn't until recently that I came across Asperger's in an attempt to figure out my daughter's difficulties with school. Well, it explains a lot of my differences too.
Do you have other psych diagnoses? Major depression (yeah duh), bipolar II (not), ADHD (probably not, never mind the official dx)
Do you have a degree? BA 2005, Religious Studies with a Women Studies minor
Kids? DS 31 and his wife, plus my four grandkids: 8, 5, 2, and 14 mo. DD 28. DS2 17. Kayli 7. I don't know that any of my kids are entirely NT. DS2 has developmental delays, especially in speech. Kayli may be on the spectrum. Probably.
Favorite music, other than NIN
Celtic, Moody Blues, Blind Faith, Joan Baez. Not favorites are Mariachi, which is unfortunate given where I live, rap, cry in your beer CW, death metalJob? not at the moment, but I'm an accountant
Relationship with significant other, past or present? Yes
Plans for the future? To get a job that more or less suits me, and to do what I can to ease Kayli's way. If it happens that I help ease others' like her, so much the better.

Current perseverations: AS, fitness (walking) - the list actually used to be quite long, but these two are taking up all my time, lately.
When did you discover AS? "Discovered" it about 18 years ago, but actively avoided looking into the mirror, so to speak. About a month ago, I decided that my life might actually be better if I owned up to what I already knew subconsciously - and so far, it appears I was right!

Do you have a degree? Bachelor of Music Education
Kids? No.
Favorite music, other than NIN - Kate Bush, Fiona Apple, Poe, The Dresden Dolls, Liz Phair, Kate Voegele, ... (love female vocalists!! !)
Job? Technical Illustrator/CAD
Relationship with significant other, past or present? A few - never to the point of marriage or living together. Most recent was 1979-81.
Plans for the future? I would really like to find a way to connect closely to another human being (I am working on it, but it can be a struggle.)

Current perseverations: disability advocacy, sci-fi/fantasy literature and film, real-time strategy games, psychology (and why relationships never seem to work right for me, which leads to the "self-help" books), downloading free software
When did you discover AS? My son, now age 17, was diagnosed 7 years ago. My 2nd ex-wife (not his mother) brought it to my attention that it was thought to be hereditary about a year later, which then explained a LOT of things in my life that bothered me, like about people and why they do the things they do. Now I know I don't always have to understand why; I'm just different.
Do you have other psych diagnoses? Profound depression (with suicidal tendencies), passive-submissive/borderline personality (both before the AS diagnosis)
Do you have a degree? Associate Degree in Applied Electronics Technology
Kids? They're fantastic with salsa... Seriously, my son is 17 and my daughter is 15. Son has AS, daughter had in-utero stroke causing some slight learning disability.
Favorite music? Actually, I do like NIN and other industrial style music, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Pink Floyd, Eminem... but mostly I love music without lyrics. Bach is best, especially harpsicord and organ music... also retro computer music found at http://remix.kwed.org/... you can actually listen to it without downloading it here.
Job? Lead Operator ("floor supervisor") for a 411/operator services call center for the past 2 years.
Relationship with significant other, past or present? Been married twice, occasional girlfriend after 2nd marriage, currently no relationship of any kind.
Plans for the future? Can't make plans. Too frustrating when they don't work out right.
Anything else you feel is pertinent: Had hyperlexia as a child; still have hypersensitivity to odors and bright lights, which makes grocery shopping very tense. Still have gross motor coordination problems--you should see me run into the cubicle walls on a daily basis...
