The Dino-Aspie Cafe (for Those 40+... or feeling creaky)
Welcome here Nutti. (Sorry, Bunni).
Having got that out of the way, on to the important stuff.
Once I'd caught up with reading the small books that people wrote while I was asleep, I naturally went to hang up my washing.
I was giggling to myself as I hung up clothes, with comments from here flashing through my mind. I have only highly disjointed memories of the "Summer of Love" (I was working a vacation job with IBM in Glasgow at the critical moment). Then came Cambridge, and the first contact with what purported to be cannabis (I now suspect we were smoking mud). Anyway, others have told that sort of stuff, so I'll not dwell; I'll get back to the clothes.
What it is, is that I hung up seven T-shirts, but ten pairs of pants (nether undergarments, knickers, that is, not trousers). Now, I change my T-shirts just as often as I change pants, so where does this discrepancy come from? I have my suspicions. I've just thought - how many pairs of socks are there - I'll go check.
Aha! Twenty socks, so ten pairs, which means that agrees with the pants. That's good, because I wondered if I had started wetting myself laughing at this thread, and had been suppressing any memory of the extra pant changes.
So. I'm left with needing to explain the shortfall in dirtied, but now cleaned, T-shirts. I know there now exists a god known as "The Eater of Socks" (see Hogfather), but is there also an "Eater of T-shirts" on the loose?
If this were fiction, and I were Ellery Queen, I suppose this last paragraph would reveal a spectacular denouement, or at least be a punchline. It doesn't and isn't.

Paleo opined: We had a s**t load of blue micro dot
ah, now, I am not sure I agree with you on your memory work there, Paleo. The pelleting machine that produced the Microdot was not used until the early 70's, because they hadn't stolen it until then. Of course, orange sunshine was in BARRELLS in 1969, a sort of double microdot size but bigger in diameter- and then Blue Krishna (in 1972) was in barrells, too ( and WAY too crumbly, but the main chemists had been busted and it was made for their bail/defense fund) But put me on the record that the chemists that got the pill making machine that made the famous microdot was in the seventies.
Next you are gonna tell me that Ozley made his OWN, when it was his wife all along. (Ozley was the genius behind distributing it.)

Interesting talk. I was born in 1960 so missed alot of the culture then, but I caught up later on for a period of time. Wanting to be in total control of myself at all times, I was fussy about what I tried, and always lots of research first. My friends thought my behavior odd. Imagine that? Oh well those times are long long gone.
I'm trying to entice my daughter to register here today. Currently she is immersing herself in Kingdom Hearts. Earlier her brother turned her on to TRON! We have it on DVD. I'm not sure what she thought of it yet, as she's only let me brush her hair so far today.
Thanks for the welcomes
I prefer my coffee fairly plain, strong, with a little half n half and some Splenda....nothing fancy ![]()

Bunni,
that is exactly how I drink MY coffee. Make it in a French Press, have my Splenda (isn't splenda a modern miracle?) and fat free half and half.
I am trying that soy milk Silk recently, but I have to say 'bletch' and stick with the half and half.
Welcome, Bunni, glad you are here.

My daughter did register but had to run back to her game after posting an intro. She is emdude
She said she'd come back later to post elsewhere.
We tried some of the soymil products, and we abandined them very quickly. My hubby thinks he's lactose intolerant...yet eats cheese and ice cream without a problem, just hates milk. I thought this would be an alternative, but no.
I'm fond of cinnamon buns, but will settle for an occassional muffin.

Emdude has made contact with the underground. They will teach her about second user names, hiding in plain sight, and the secrets of instant messaging. They are just children playing games, all of which have world domination as the major theme.
See You! means they are gathering at another site, the secret internet, where they sing in Leet, gather their forces, and prepare for the day.

Hey there,
I'm new here, but have been REALLY interested in this community in my hyperfocused way for many weeks and reading the posts avariciously. I became aware of AS and the autistic spectrum because my son was diagnosed at the age of 5 (he's now 19) and my daughter has been diagnosed with PDD-NOS. I have been diagnosed with ADD and CAPD but everyone else thinks I'm an aspie. At this point in my life, 50 years old, I'm too old to care about labels for myself. I grew up when no one heard of AS and I was considered a very bright and serious girl who was very quiet and came from a family who had many members with a combination of introversion and giftedness. My father was an alcoholic and would self destruct every 6 months or so and I spent a lot of time with my grandmother who I loved because she was so rational. She was very religious is a liberal Methodist sort of way and gave me a moral compass.
I was fortunate enough to have been spared a lot of the awful teasing that I read about here mainly because I was brought up to be a exeedingly polite child by my grandmother who was born in 1897 and of a different world. She actively taught me social skills in the guise of "good manners," and all my failed social interactions were explained to me as either a failure of manners on my part and/or a failure of manners on the part of others. The world made a lot of sense until my grandmother died and my mother and father fell apart and became incresingly erratic and we ended up living in poverty in a very bad section of town. I started high school in those circumstances and I just couldn't handle it. I stopped going to school and got a job at the age of 16. I simply could not live in chaos. My father also had a lot of aspie traits and he would try so hard and finally break down and go on a 2 week drunk and lose his job. This was the story of his life unfortunately. My mother's only goal in life was to keep my father from drinking and trying to control my life as well since I was an only child.
I did manage to get a degree in anthropology and am married to a wonderful ISTJ who is very grounded in life. I am a theoretical iNTP who gets lost in my head very easily.
Our 2 children are on the spectrum: my son has Aspergers and my daughter has the label of PDD-NOS. None of us are exactly the same in our interactions and from my readings here, I can see that if you've met one aspie, you've met one aspie. Everyone seems so different in the severity of the traits. For instance, I can understand a lot of non verbal communication, but I just don't understand why it is happening. I know when someone is angry, sad, tense, insulted, etc., but often don't know what caused them to feel that way. My husband, who is a good observer, thinks that I have no clue about how my behaivor affects others. He's probably right about that. I'm pretty easy going until I get mad and he tells me that I can be extremely intimidating and arguing with me is like getting pinned against a wall. We own a Net business which I created, and which he runs, and I mostly work from home on the creative side of the business.
I have many interests, which can change quickly. If I become interested in something, I am REALLY interested in it until I "use it up," and then have to move onto something else. I have always been an avid reader and have always been interested in anthropology and evolutionary psychology. I also like to scuba dive because no one can talk down there except in the most rudimentary sign language. I can't dive enough to "use it up." I have an auditory processing problem where speech sometimes sounds like loud noises. I can hyperfocus to such a degree that a bomb could go off next to me and I wouldn't notice. People sometimes mistake me for being deaf and shout at me, which I find annoying.
At any rate, that's where I am right now. I've never been involved in an online discussion group aside from my special interests and this is the most personal information that I have written about msyelf in ages. Nice to meet you all. ![]()
Hi, Serious Girl.
Welcome! Wow.
To about 80% of your post I could simply say "ditto." Another 10% -- very similar.
I've been on WP since November, and the recognition factor with so many others still amazes and gets to me.
To all -- hey, I've missed you. I see you've been waxing philosophical, historical and socio-political. Bravo! Some amazing writing here.... Naturally, had to read all your posts.
Your DD has been knocked out by a migraine since Thursday p.m. Didn't recognize it and hop on the meds fast enough, so basically just been in the dark lying down sleeping since then. On the rebound now.
Stress alone never causes my migraines, but it's always one key factor. Body's way of saying ENOUGH! Guess all that job negotiating last week put me over the top after the enons of waiting for offer(s).
Imitrex doesn't seem to help much. Anyone else have a newer migraine med to suggest?
DD
Good evening, Serious Girl.
I so liked that "I can see that if you've met one aspie, you've met one aspie.".
You're just about to meet one other (and I see DD has resurfaced too, as I type, Hi DD, so that's another one, yes indeedy, we come in ones).
Unfortunately, only briefly, as I'm nodding off - wrong side of the planet, and a silly session last night.
It sounds as if you have a pretty well organised life/family, given that you all sound like real human people.
Hope you enjoy the cafe... we do.

Howdy SeriousGirl
The Wife (swampblossom) says she thinks this little clan of ours is worthy of an ethnography. Amoung the other names I call her, Oh Trained One, would be an elude to the fact that she has papers and I'm not paper trained. Since I'm not formal (maybe down right disgusting) trained in the fine art of watching the differnt groupages of cultures, I'm not worthy of the undertaking (I will bring out the dead if called up). I would also have to look up a lot of spelling to untertake such a thing, but, alas, I break out in severe rashage when close to said books.
That's about as serious as I get here. Have kids myself, my wife started way young, so I have lost count of numbers of total kiddage, grandkiddage and great grandkiddage. Love em when they're here and can't get their little boots on fast enough to get them back to where ever it is kids come from.
I believe in the power of the muffin.
