I am about to go in for the operation. It is estimated to last 12 hours. This will be my last post for awhile. Hopefully I will see you on the other side. Thank you again for your support not only with my health issues, but in helping me find my Aspie-Autistic self

Dear APOM,

I hope you have only heard good news and good things from your doctors.

I hope the staff is treating you well, and keeping on top of the pain.

I hope the staff keeps your tablet plugged in and within easy reach.

Wishing you restful sleep.

Keeping fingers crossed the upcoming week goes according to plan.

I am out of the hospital and back in a rehabilitation facility.

The first week of recovery was a rougher road then my first similar operation. The new tongue flap is doing fairly well, it was the side effects. Partcularly the digestive system and the breathing system. As with the last operation my mouth is swollen and all sorts of secretions were blocking the raimaining airways and had to be suctioned out. I had these issues last time out but it is worse this time.

Because the graft was taken from my leg instead of my arm I am less mobile and have more physical and occupational therapy ahead.

Hey AsPartOfMe- I'm sorry I missed this entire thread and had no clue you were going through this terrible struggle. I haven't been in this area of WP as much. I saw the thread yesterday and had to think about it before reading it today, frankly. It upset me to see YOU were ill. That sounds bad. No one should be ill, but maybe you know what I mean.

I'm glad you're still with us. You're one of my favorite people on here. There are a few members on WP who I think of as mentors and you are one of them.

Something you said about the NT reaction reminded me of the death of my brother many years ago. I don't talk about my brother much, I guess because he was the best person I ever knew, yet he killed himself. He kept his intentions to himself so no one was able to help him beforehand.

After this happened, people didn't know what to say to me. They either avoided me, or said things that were more of a comfort to themselves. I've noticed that people do the same thing when a person has cancer. They can't imagine facing something like that, so they don't really try. The words they offer are like handing you a tissue. They don't think about the words afterwards. They don't mean anything to them. They just say what they think is expected.

I try not to do that myself. I know things I say probably won't make you feel any better, but from experience I also know not saying anything at all sucks. Rest up, but remember we also need you here when you feel up to it.

You've been in my thoughts since they wheeled you into the OR.

I'm happy to see your post, and and wish your recovery was going easier.

Sending you quick healing vibes from freezing Michigan.
