... start posting here, as I reckon that I'm a definite 30+ (and the rest  )

For anyone not in the know, Hern is a mythical person, often associated with myths in the Windsor area of the UK. Often known as Herne the Hunter or the Green Man (as shown by several UK pubs of that name).

He is often thought to be a more recent Saxon manifestation of the Celtic figure Cernunnos.

I did not know that the Green Man was the same as the Hunter.

Living on the other side of the continent on the other side of the "pond", the Hern, Green Man, and Hunter are all new to me.

Fascinating subject, mythology 8)

Wasn't the Robin Hood character based on the Hern myth?

Here is Wales, we have myths of dragons and giants...

Anyway, welcome to WP, Hern :)

Hi all, thanks for the replies :)

Starr - I love the Robin Hood stories and I liked the older BBC version of it, which tied it all into the Hern legends.

The newer BBC version with Jonas Armstrong was pretty good as well and I was a great fan of it. Shame they've decided to axe it now - apparently weekend early evening family shows are out of fashion now, as they don't draw as big an audience as reality TV shows

I see Russell Crowe is in the UK at the moment, filming a version of Robin Hood - not sure whether the idea of Crowe as Hood really sits that well with me. He seems more like a Sherriff of Nottingham to me.

I can't imagine Crowe as Robin either. And with Cate Blanchett as Marian, they'll be a bit older than Robin and Marian are usually portrayed. Some scenes are being filmed in Pembrokeshire. Might pop along and see if I can get a part as an extra - a scurvied peasant maybe, lol.
