Destroys my routines, makes and demostrates I am isolated, makes me look stupid. Anger and depression has been flaring since end Nov and I know from prev yrs I am in danger till Feb with anger and intense behaviour. Fun huh! ie profile 51 yr old self employed .... sometimes happy'ish otherwise.... Luckily I know to focus on things that interest me, so only real bug is minimising alchohol intake at nights when stuck in house with wife. I think I will listen to shortwave morse code for a few days.. that'll block it out / occupy me ... and no wonder I didn't have kids. Other stuff too, will be useful.

I do as well. Christmas used to be a fun time of the, year but that was in the 1970's but now I've grown up and have no children or a partner, I hate christmas there is nothing to be looking forward to. I will be spending it with my family and they will pressure me to me happy just because it is christmas and the joining in part I will be pressurised to do that as well I've been stuggling with this. I would empathise with Scrooge out of Charles Disckens: A Christmas Carol. It is only for the kids anyway not for us who have grown up. Season of Good will. What about the rest of the year? It sounds rather hypocritical:arrow:

But which Scrooge -

You mean opening-chapter Scrooge, who's so stingy and cruel he'd steal the last farthing from a feeble beggar just because he could? The man who's so sour to his core that he begrudges others for trying to spend time with their families and find a brief moment's enjoyment in a life of toil?

Or the mid-story Scrooge who's wetting himself in fear because he's seeing dead people, being visited by spirits and discovering that nearly everyone he knows openly expresses their heartfelt wishes that he were dead?

Or repentant Scrooge, transformed and redeemed, who realizes that life is too short to waste it all clutching one's possessions and spitting at anyone who comes near, when in fact the greatest treasure one can have in this life are the rare bonds one is able to form with others through sharing and good will?

Baaaaahhh! Convivial humbuggery! Cratchet - step to, man -my glass is half-empty!

i really do not like this time of year; adults are encouraged to throw money at presents for people that do not need them, children are deceived. Christmas is a lie that i will not support or contribute to.

...the thing that upsets me the most is this; if you are going to be nice to someone only one day a year because it is the "season" to do so, do your actions mean anything at all? wouldn't it be better to be a good person all year? wouldn't it be better to be spontaneously generous (because you can) and kind because being kind and generous is a reward in itself?

it would seem that the primary focus of Christmas is gross consumerism, gluttony, and commercial and capital opportunity... was it not the Christian saviour, the son and embodiment of God on Earth, Jesus, that threw merchants from the temple? every year the merchants return and are welcomed with open arms by the church and the society that supposedly embraces their faith in celebrating Christmas (and Easter). is it not within the Christian doctrine to abandon greed and gluttony in favour of charity, modesty, and self regulation?

...but then what would i know about right and wrong? i am an atheist and i don't believe in anything... as said by someone else, at some other time, "morality has been hijacked by religion".

also, FYI, there is a lot of evidence that suggests that both Christmas and Easter are convenient dates adopted by the Christian faith from pagan festivals for the northern winter solstice and spring equinox/fertility respectively... it's all a sham folks.

I celebrated yesterday but I don't bother with Christmas too much. It's stressful and aggrivating and it was stolen from pagan holidays anyway. Yule used to be on the 25th.

People at work think I am weird because I celebrate almost every holiday I can find. I decorate my cube and wear silly clothes at times.

I use this site http://www.earthcalendar.net/ constantly.

I came way too close to death to realize that I should hold on to life. I know it makes me look crazy at times, but it helps me fight off depression and reminds me to enjoy life (it doen't always work.. but it helps keep me in the fight) If my sending a card cheers up someones life for 10 seconds, it's worth it.

The commercial holiday of Christmas is a sham, ... but for me it's just one more reason to celebrate.

So Happy Holidays.

Just came from Target to get black shirts for my niece and nephew, i made iron-on drawings of them. That was hellof relaxing, being a weird-looking guy who's nervous as hell and looking around in the girl's department. Felt like I emerged from a battlefield afterwards.

I've always hated it. The forced socialization is the worst.

But having said that, this is my best Christmas yet - I'm home alone as the wife and kids have gone off to celebrate with some local friends. This is the first year that I have decided to make a stand and leave the social thing to the family and simply not attend. Already my family appreciates how much better I am to be around since we decided a week ago that I'm not going. :)

I don't like Christmas either... it is supposed to be a religious holiday but is only about consumerism. The hypocrisy is mind boggling. Jesus probably was not born in December anyway... it's so bizarre when you take a step back and look at what a discombobulated holiday it is.

However, I think Christmas lights look pretty. :D

I find that Christmas has been totally commercialized these days. I don't like to be persuaded by the media or by the rest of consumerist society to go crazy on Christmas shopping.
I used to look forward to Christmas presents when I was little, but now I treat it like any other day of the year.

The only exception is Boxing Day, in which I might buy something that I actually *NEED* if it's on a discount. I'm not going to fall into the trap of buying something simply coz it's cheaper than normal.
