I wonder how many other aspies have weird sleeping habits, like me. I don't have any trouble sleeping, but I rarely sleep through the entire night. I guess my circadian rhythms are strange. I might sleep for three or four hours, then I'm up again. Later, I'll go back to bed for three or four more hours. It's like my body has two shifts in each 24-hour period.

My body thinks a day has 28H, so obviously my sleeping pattern is a bit wired.

It happens for me often, but this is not the rule. The rule is I am sleeping according to how I slept the 2 nights before

I believe that's a form of insomnia. Something i'm dealing with right now.

I suppose if you have a schedule to accommodate it, it's not such a big deal. I don't have this luxury atm and am working up the courage to do what i need to do to get me back to my normal 23hr 50min cycle.

Yes, I also have non-24-hour sleep-wake syndrome and it makes life hell.

That's what I do, too. It's very rare for me to sleep 8 hours straight. I usually sleep 3-5 hours, wake up, and then sleep some more. Usually I sleep about 6 hours per day.

Sometimes, I used to sleep 3 or 4 times a week, since I wanted to finish my projects without a break to dream up more improvements. I've also had enough traumatic wake-ups that I'm often afraid to sleep. My current pattern is pretty chaotic, sleeping twice or three times per day. If I miss a nap I can get over-tired and not be able to sleep for a long time. Having correspondents around the globe does not help.
I first started to stabilize around sleeping twice a day when I was feeding a wood stove for heat. Here's a short video that supports that pattern, which was common before electric lights. People would have a mid-night time to talk quietly or do work that required little sight. http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/jessa ... sleep.html
That site is also a great place to browse for talks by unusually rational people doing interesting things.

How interesting! I wish the video had been longer. Thanks for posting.

I sleep a lot when I get the chance. It's my only way of escaping especially when I'm angry or upset.

I have no pattern.

It takes me hours and hours to fall asleep. I sleep for a short time and awake alert, but know I need more sleep so go to sleep then awake a few hours later exhausted and barely able to get out of bed.

I am tired all day, then hit energy in the evening, and the cycle continues.

Some nights I don't sleep at all, so its the same as above but without the sleep.

Sometimes I miss a lot of sleep then crash for 24-48 hours straight (up to pee and drink water, with a little food from time to time).

I have always thought I was nocturnal. I have excellent night vision and didn't have sleeping problems when I worked a graveyard shift...

I've always slept like a baby. I kind of wish it would go into more healthier outlets. Sometimes when I can't sleep I take something to knock me out like Benodryl, alcohol or Tylenol PM.

Yeah, If I'm running short on sleep, I'll be groggy all day, and then too awake later. It is as if I catch up my sleep with mini-naps or resting parts of my head.

in my working years, the only thing that would make me sleep was by being totallty exhausted by work. on a sunday before i had to go back to work, i could never sleep, i'd just toss and turn all night long until just before the damned alarm clock went off. and my body won't let me take alcohol, and benadryl or anything OTC simply does nothing. the only pill i ever took that put me out was a horsepill called soma comp/codeine, and that only worked once, thereafter i already developed a tolerance for it. i wish alky worked for me, then i'd be happily blotto.

Hmmm... I sleep quite a lot. I usually go to sleep at around 8:30 and then get up at six, however I think I'm affected by sunlight, because I get up at around 3:50 in the summer. The only problems I have are a) if I miss my slot, I find it hard to get to sleep; b) I wake up frequently, and spend part of the night staring at the wall rather than actually sleeping; and c) if I don't follow my routine, I end up tossing and turning all night.
