I read the recent post about problems getting an adult diagnosis in England, but I'm having the same issue here. I'm VERY new to the information, but damn is this getting hard. I've been offered occupational help, help evaluating my kids, help finding a job, etc., but that's not what I'm looking for. I'm really puzzled by the response I'm getting from the folks I've contacted which is....why do you want a diagnosis? are you sure you want a diagnosis? and offers to treat me and guide me on an assumptive basis. Maybe this is part of the whole condition but I want a definitive, quantifiable, statistically significant test, not a bunch of mushy subjective comments and guesses, plus throw in a standard set of coping skills type of session.

Would love to hear any suggestions anyone has and I'm going to keep looking over here as I get a better handle on all of this.

Thanks

Mike

Forgive me for bumping this several months late, but I'm in the same boat as you, MikeB2of10, and wondering if you had any luck?

I'm finding it very hard to keep up the level of social interaction needed for games of runaround; using the phone to call insurance and psychologists and inquire about testing is impossible 9 days out of 10 for me, which is drawing the ordeal out so long that it's starting to seem not worth it. But it seems like without an official diagnosis based on "official" testing, you're not taken seriously, no matter how much you wave around your ridiculous scores on all the AQ tests.

Anyway, if it helps anyone else, there's a psychology group in Springfield, MO (midwestassessment dot com) willing to take me on as an adult. I was looking at Dr. Dawson, as she was supposedly in-network for my insurance. She said it would be one day of testing from around 8-2 and would cost $750. 8O She's still on the table for now, but apparently despite being in-network for my insurance, I'd have to pay all out of pocket, and $500 up front due to me having a deductible I've never heard of before, so trying to straighten that out.
