I just heard from the Seaver Center that I am too old to participate in research... and they don't take insurance, so it's and out-of-pocket expense.

If I had known two years ago, I could have volunteered for research and gotten my answers that way. But I am too damned old.

Sucks.

I'm sorry but how old are you?

There are different research studies, so maybe find one that doesn't have an age restriction on it. Or keep looking until one is revealed that is specifically for your age bracket.

I just went to Seaver for an evaluation to participate in a study and they didn't mention age, but now I'm wondering, because I'm older (under 50 but over 30--I'll let you do the math <G> ) if that is going to be a disqualifying factor.

47

Leah at the Seaver Center said they have a cut-off at 45.

On the outside looking in, again.

I think they perform evaluations without being part of a research study. Do you have health insurance? Would it be covered? If you have out-of-network benefits it might be partially covered depending upon your specific plan.

They don't take insurance.

I do have a plan with out-of-network benefits, so I may be able to get partial reimbursement. But it's a big hit. I will have to wait until my refund check comes in, then explain to my family that I need to spend a hunk of it on myself. I don't usually do that.

Thanks for the useful thoughts.

How much does Seaver charge for evaluations?

You should go to where I got my original diagnosis. The guy spent 2 hours and was very knowledgeable. He is highly regarded in psychiatric community and also has been mentioned in AS/ASD books and articles, in fact it is his specialty. He charged $600 and I was reimbursed 80% by my insurance. If you want his name I can give it to you in PM. Let me know.

Thanks! I'll take you up on that.
