Hello...
I am approaching 60 and have strong feelings that I have struggled with many of the symptoms of Aspergers Syndrom all of my life. I have a second cousin that was born with some kind of autism on the spectrum, and i believe this to be an inherited disease.
My question is where does one go to be truly diagnosed with this disorder, and especially if you live in Canada?
If any-one can tell me how they were diagnosed, that may be of some help. I feel that a true diagnosis would just make me feel like I was not imagining this...but then again...perhaps Aspergers Syndrome is really only a subjective diagnosis even from so called experts in the field.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could probably go to a neuropsychologist. I got diagnosed in 6th grade by one after another one thought I had ODD (oppositional defiant disorder)

Try "Justanswer" for a start.
I am 59 and have contacted "Justanswer" after having done tests for a couple of months. I gave some brief information about my life, certain characteristics and my testresults. The therapist, Elliott, who read it, gave his opinion: probably a light case of high functioning AS, otherwise, quirky.
You could start there also (susan macphail is one of the AS experts).
I´ve now contacted a local psychiatrist, who does assessments. We´ll see.
Isn´t there one like that i Yukon?

Thanks...i will consider trying this...but...as I live here...there is lots of limitations...not only in health..but food choices...most go to Vancouver for specialist stuff.
I appreciate you giving my post some thought though...and thanks again

You should try looking for learning disability centers because they usually have psychologists in staff, but the wait times can be long. That is how I got tested as an adult.
