It's self-ish to be your SSI payee? I depend on one of my family members to have some where to live and I'm stuck in my situation. I would like to be my SSI payee, but I don't know if it would work. I wish to to pay the rent for another apartment with out my parents help. How do they move out of there parents home and then move back in?

if you have a payee, you have to get a form from soc sec signed by your doctor saying you can handle your money if you want the money to come directly to you.

what a person gets on SSI won't pay for a decent apartment unless it's subsidized housing, for which there is a waiting list.

so talk to your doc and get on some waiting lists if an apartment and financial independence are your goals.

no, it's not selfish. it's a normal part of growing up.

SSI or SSDI? I was on SSDI when Social Security told me to get a letter from my Dr. saying I could handle my own finances and they would give me money directly. I was worried it would affect my SSDI because my Psychiatrist is not the Psychiatrist Social Security sent me to for evaluation for disability. My Psychiatrist gave me the letter after asking me some questions about my financial history and doing some kind of evaluation of my mental state. Social Security took my to the back as soon as I handed them the letter and put everything in my name. My Psychiatrist said that my ability to handle my own finances had nothing to do with my disability.

It's SSI and I agree with you.

Chances are, it has to be your psych. speaking from experience...

And I know how you feel. My permanent partner is my payee
