Who else here is embedded in their community in some way or other (employed, married, a parent, volunteer work, etc.) and also has a high level of speech difficulty?

I suppose I'm just looking to commiserate. I'm feeling "turtle-y" (like I just want some relief from talking and to just hide inside my shell for a bit). I can't get relief, of course, so maybe hearing someone else deals with these issues and makes it through would be helpful.

Especially in public speaking, I feel stymied by my speech/linguistic problems. I stutter/stammer, and tend to revert to the commonplace when more technical/intellectual language is called for.

I mumble. Now that I am older and people that deal with me are older and hard of hearing I am started to be asked to repeat my self

^pretty much this. i would add younger people as well (i'm young)

words in my head buzz around incessantly and when i'm put on the spot to speak it can be difficult to string them into sentences.

i stutter a bit too, x100 is asked suddenly or put on the spot.

my native language is spanish and the /s/ and /z/ sounds in that language are more dentalized than in english. that was a rather pointless goal of speech therapy, to fix that which did not need fixing.

i have had speech therapy for over 13 years, right now i'm being harangued over volume and tone.

when placed on the spot, yeah, i have some problems with that.
however, if i am supposed to give a speech of some sort, and am informed ahead of time (a few days), i can prepare it and take on an acting persona while giving the speech.
i could ad-lib a speech as well, but not while in my acting persona, so i must be warned that i am going to be called upon.

I have difficulty in organizing myself for a speech/presentation.

In the midst of this difficulty, I might stutter rather severely.

stuttering plus being chronically quiet. even if i get the right words in i still will not be understood.

most of my requests seem to be followed by a ".....what?"

Lol, I tend to stammer more than anything. It's like I'll be talking fine, then all of the sudden in mid sentence, it'll sound like I just had a damn stroke. I usually just stop and repeat the sentence, then all is well.

does your job, or anything else that you do, require such?

I used to stutter quite severely and I still have trouble with certain words when stressed and on the phone but I'm fluent most of the time. The fear of speaking is still present though and I sometimes feel like I can't speak at all. I suspect my social anxiety makes this issue worse. I often feel really stupid when I can't organise my thoughts quickly enough to form articulate sentences. I also speak very softly so I often have to repeat myself which increases the anxiety and makes stuttering more likely.

Under stress when someone asks me questions, I get stuck repeating the same short phrase, or lose speech altogether. There is no way to get even a single word out, then. It's like when a printer's paper is jammed. It is difficult to lose speech completely at the one time when you really need it.

Does anyone here have more severe speech issues?

People like me seem nonexistent when you are talking about employed/married/parents/etc.

I am not fluent at all (11% on fluency tests).

I use an AAC app.

How do you know if you understand something or if your thoughts are just parrots of information?

This is a problem I have but did not know till recently. This is not comfortable and do not know how to address this at all. How am I to know if I truely understand the information someone is communicating at me written or spoken (in any language)? Also, flip that with me communicating my thoughts correctly or not. How to prevent miscommunicating...
