Out of curiosity, how many people got a job they wanted when they were younger, or something akin to that?

Not even close to my pre-teen dream jobs. First I wanted to be an astronaut, then I wanted to be a marine biologist and teach dolphins to talk.

After that, I wanted to be an illustrator, which didn't really pan out either, but I am in web site design, which is sort of related. And I still draw for fun.

LOL...no one aspires to be a "career data entry operator."

But that's exactly what I became when I was 19--and I still have the same job at 55.

It's not exactly being a doctor or an astronaut, etc....but it pays the bills.

only in my dreams did I ever get anything remotely like what I woulda been had I some functional free will in the situation. closest I got was [FINALLY!] in my 40s, on disability, I was OJT'd in being a hospital ward secretary/billing coder, but it was specific to the military hospital I worked in and not directly transferable to other hospitals which would only hire folks with degrees [for the coding]. got laid off after a year of that. but it was the only clean job I ever had where I could wear nice clothes and not have to drip sweat in the course of a workday.
