I havent worked out details but just had a thought that I was wondering if others were interested in exploring?

I really need to de-packrat my apartment.I have so much stuff my "space " is no longer functional.I have been procrastinating and getting overhelmed with the AS and executive function aspects of this process.....here is why.

I love my stuff.I think it is interesting.I dont know what if any of it has any "value" but it is difficult to part with...but I must.I just cant decide which things to let go of....what if I get rid of craft supplies and later need something, cloths that dont fit...maybe I will lose or gain weight.....(I do this a lot).I cant bare the idea of anything of mine ending up in a landfill. My other options are donating to thriftstore, selling on the internet(never done ebay and doubt I have the patience to do so...have no idea of the "value" of anything, though I could use the extra income,I dont really NEED it..)

Soooo,I was thinking, maybe there are other people here who have things to give away(for the price of shipping costs)or to sell.
We are a pretty large community and many share interests.Perhaps we could have our own "criags list"?I know some people would feel uncomfortable giving out their addresses and dont know away around this and I would hate it if this caused any infighting in the community......"this person didnt pay",bla, bla. We also live in different countries and shipping might be prohibitive?or legall complicated?

I dont have answers to the details but thought that it might be an interesting way to live communaly inspite of our distances and a chance for some to sell their crafts, arts, collections?

ANyone care to input?

I agree it could be neat. But there is a chance of someone getting taken. I mean Ebay exists for a reason as there is some protection from fraudulent buyers and sellers that way. I would at least suggest if any money changes hands do it through Paypal so that both parties are protected.

I 'spose if you seriously want to do it list the stuff you want to give away and the stuff you want. I would suggest only dealing with people you have seen on here for a long time and exchange addresses only through PM's.

Most of the stuff I have to give away is fairly heavy so I wouldn't want to spend $$ to mail it. I have a few new or nearly new shirts I might consider giving away.

I Ebay quite a bit...but I'm a member of a "barter" type site also...and I really enjoy it. I like the way it's set up.

http://www.poshpoints.com

I've seen forums that have set something like this up...but it seems someone is always getting burned by scammers...and I've seen alot of name-calling and disputes. :(

I thought if there was a "post Points"...ie...you could only participate IF you had a certain # of posts....50,100,500,whatever,it would keep out the scammers. It may be from issue with ToM,but I just dont think many aspies are dishonest.I know some of us have learned how to lie to avoid conflict or get around things we think are unjust....but for the most part,I think we are an honest bunch and wouldnt want to screw over another aspie.

I know there are other people here who like music, books, collecting things, just seemed like it would be nice to share or for those in need of money.....sell their arts, crafts, etc.I think the biggest problem for me is getting a box, leaving the house to mail something......do they still have a ...."charge upon delivery"?That way,it would be easy to ship something without the risk of losing the price of shipping?

My boyfriend does a lot of Ebay for guitars and really likes PayPal,has saved him from being burned several time.

Thanks for the input....judging by the number of views and small response,I would say I maybe alone in my interest of this as a possibility.Just thought I would throw it out there and see.

Your idea is good one, though many challenges exist in implementing it.
Something I do, informally-book loan or trade, to a couple folks I "know" online as trustworthy. It's not quite what you propose, thought I'd mention it as example of a small version, just mailing a book to someone. Either the other person has a book I'd like to read (without having to buy it) or vice versa-or both. Did this using another ASD site, where I was less concerned about putting my personal details/address in a pm to another person.

50,100,500 is a hell of a lot of posts. I don't think anyone
will be in danger, if we set that as the limit.

The issue isn't just one of dishonesty though. When one
starts throwing mailing costs, and accidental misrepresentations
into it all, it really gets kinda dangerous. Seems a lot safer to
deal through a site which has some protections in place.

I think it's a great idea - I love the idea of trading.
When the passionfruit are in season again, I'll be making gallons of passionfruit syrup and will be happy to trade jars of them for things.
I also have tons of Hawaiian photos that MS and I took with his pro camera, if anybody is interested in having some photos to hang on their walls I'd be happy to trade those. I'm moving so am in the process of getting rid of almost everything, but can't really think of anything else I could trade.

But maybe people could just post what they have and see if anybody else is particularly interested.

Oh yeah, I also have coconuts that can be mailed, they can be used as doorstops or garden decorations or, if your climate is okay, they might even sprout. That reminds me, for those of you into houseplants, I have tons of starts.

And if anybody wants chicks, they too can be shipped!

I often buy and sell both car and computer parts off forums. That said though I only use the local ones. I prefer when the person I am dealing with is in the same city and I can meet them to pickup or have them come pickup. In my experience so far it has worked very well and is quite safe.

I like ebay too. The way I see it, ebay is for selling your goods (I always get a better sale price) and forums are good for nabbing bargains because often people "just want it gone" and often can't be bothered going through the formalisations of ebay.

If there is a way that it can be done without problems I would be interested. I knit, sew, crochet and do needlework. I do custom work for people who want it and also just make things that I can trade or sell. I prefer the points or barter idea.
